Which Width Do I Need

Most Birkenstock styles are available in ‘regular’ or ‘narrow’ width.

Narrow width is suitable for narrow to slender feet.

Regular width is suitable for normal to wide feet.

If you already own a pair of Birkenstocks or are trying them on in store – check out the little foot symbol on the footbed. If the foot is coloured in, it’s a narrow . If it’s just an outline of a foot, it’s a regular .

Birkenstock Classic Fit Details

Birkenstocks are available in Regular or Narrow widths. Regular is suitable for people with regular to wide feet, while Narrow is suitable for people with Narrow feet. We recommend opting for Regular if you are unsure.

This Birkenstock runs true to size. We recommend sticking with your usual size and refer to the Size Guide if you are unsure.

This Birkenstock provides support features including longitudinal, metatarsal and transverse arch support, a heel cup and mold, and raised toe bar for basic orthotic support.

How To Find Your Size

Step 1

Stand on a level floor with your heel up against the wall or straight edge.

Step 2

Place a ruler or measuring tape on the floor under your foot or alongside it, with your heel at 0cm.

Step 3

Measure the length of your foot from your heel to the end of your longest toe .

Step 4

Measure both feet and go with the length of your longest foot if they are different.

Step 5

Add 10mm to your foot length to allow your foot room to move. This will give you the footbed length you need to find your size.

Step 6

Check out the size charts below to find your size in EU .

Step 7

Measure the width of your foot across the broadest point. Compare your foot width measurement to the footbed width in your size to see if you will need a narrow or regular width.

BIRKENSTOCK:

Birkenstock makes footwear in regular and narrow widths. Regular fits medium to wide feet, and narrow fits narrow to medium feet. The narrow width has a bit more of an angle from the big toe to the pinky toe than the regular width, causing it to fit a bit shorter. If you are a medium width who can wear either a regular or narrow Birkenstock, you will probably wear one size larger in the narrow width. For example, a US women’s size 8 medium might wear either a 38R or 39N. In a proper fit, you should have about 1/8- to 1/4-inch of space in front of your toes and behind your heel to allow for proper break-in of the cork footbed.

Birkenstock enclosed shoes with removable footbeds often fit a bit trimmer than the Classic Footbed and Soft Footbed styles, so some customers step up a size in the enclosed shoes.

DANSKO:

Most Dansko styles are made in one medium width. or wide widths.) Customers who wear a Birkenstock regular width usually wear one size larger in Dansko. For example, a 38R Birkenstock often wears size 39 in Dansko. Customers who wear a Birkenstock narrow width usually wear the same size in Dansko. For example, a 38N Birkenstock often wears size 38 in Dansko.

Great Shoes But The Buckle Lets Them Down

these are great looking versions of the Arizona sandals which I already own a ton of pairs. The footbed is also different and much easier to wear in than the standard cork and suede one.. however the big buckles are a bit uncomfortable and caused blisters on the first wear so I am hoping that they will get more comfortable

as I wear them in!

I love them – I also have the Zinfadel ones from a few years ago.
