Overall Monkey 47 Gin
Letâs get it out of the way. The critique that can be fairly made of this gin is that it might be too contemporary and note enough juniper happening. Iâll grant you that however, as for fans of contemporary style gins will likely find a new best friend here. Fantastic on its own, its mixes quite well, with a unique and powerful aromatic presence and thick, rich, mouthfeel. Yes, the price is rather steep, coming in at close to $100 for a standard 750mL equivalent however, as a rare treat I highly recommend this gin, though at this price point I might be slightly more hesitant to recommend it if youâre going to be using it exclusively in heavy handed cocktails.

Monkey 47 is a magical gin from The Black Forest of Germany that contains 47 different botanicals and takes it provenance from a recipe created by a British expat in the 1940’s named Montgomery Collins. Collins was a wing commander in the RAF before assisting with the rebuilding of Germany in the post war years, professionally he tried his hand it watch making once he’d settled in the the Black Forest but it turned out he was much better at gin making. This recipe has been lovingly recreated by ginthusiast Alexander Stein and has become a cult classic within the world of gin drinkers.
