We were so impressed by the impactful stories and visions that were shared by these selected grant recipients, said Rashidi Hodari, Managing Director of Tequila at Beam Suntory. Similar to that of Hornitos brand history, each of these recipients exemplify the act of taking a bold chance in this case, to produce and create their short film and we could not be more excited to support their journeys in doing so.

This partnership with Hornitos celebrates those who have been taking their shot as storytellers for years by giving them the resources necessary to do exactly that, said Franklin Leonard, Founder of the Black List. Were thrilled with this inaugural group of filmmakers and look forward to further supporting them in the coming weeks, months and years ahead as they bring their visions to life.

The Hornitos x the Black Lists Take Your Shot Short Film Program is a continuation of Hornitos The Shot Fund a multi-year, investment platform dedicated to empowering todays generation of shot-takers, taking shots at trailblazing ventures in their careers.

Besides, is Hornitos a good tequila?

Hornitos was the first high-quality tequila made for the “Working Man” back in 1950 by Sauza Tequila. It is still one of the best tequilas you can buy for the price, especially considering it is double-distilled and uses only 100% Blue Agave. It is very crisp and has a strong agave/tequila kick to it.

    $25.99 – $35.99

In this manner, how is Hornitos tequila different?

They make three different types in their line – a Plata , a Reposado and an Anejo . Most other brands rest the tequila in small, American Oak barrels. Sauza, however, uses 10,000 gallon American Oak vats.

    How is Hornitos tequila made?

Hornitos Black Barrel – takes the standard Hornitos Anejo tequila aged for a year in traditional oak barrels and then finishes that tequila in heavily charred American Oak casks for four months, and then moves it to a toasted American Oak barrel for another two months.

    Hornitos Reposado Tequila 750ml

Every good spirit has a story. Sometimes that story comes from the pioneers who made it sometimes from the rebels who drank it and sometimes from the taste, it leaves in your mouth.

HE SHOT HER DEAD IN MEXICO CITY, 1951, BUG POWDER CLOUDY THROUGH HIS VEINS.

This story makes the mouth run dry.

It was a September afternoon. The Old Bull William S. Burroughs and his wife Joan shared the pallid space of a friends living room with the usual cast of characters. Drunk on tequila and marital resentment, with enough junk in his system to kill an elephant, Bill starts in again about transplanting to South America. Gonna live off the land, he said. Gonna kill and eat wild boars, he said. His wife was snidely amused.

Bill, if you were our hunter, wed starve to death, Joan taunted. Now, show the boys what kind of shot old Bill is. Show em your famous William Tell routine.

Placing a glass on her head, she turned sideways, giggled and said, I cant look you know I cant stand the sight of blood.

Before anyone could raise an objection, Bill raised his gun and fired. There was no scream or sound of shattered glass. All that could be heard was the sound of Joan sinking in her chair. He had missed. And the glass lay unbroken on the floor.

Now this, my friends, is the taste Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila leaves in your mouth: trouble in paradise. And I dont hate it.

    Review: Hornitos Tequila Seltzer

Hornitos Tequila Seltzer was launched March 2011. This is Beam Suntorys second tequila seltzer brand as they released Sauza Agua Fuerte May 2018. Hornitos Tequila Seltzer is made with a Hornitos Plata tequila base, natural flavors, and seltzer water. Hornitos tequila was born in 1950 in honor of Mexican Independence Day. It was founded by Don Francisco. Hornitos is currently the 4th best selling brand of tequila in the US.Hornitos Lime Tequila Seltzer: The aroma leads with Green River Lime soda. The Lime Dum Dum Lollipop entry is joined by agave building to a foamy lime sherbet and agave peak. It fades with lime juice and finishes with whole lime, agave, and tequila taste.

    Grade: B

Hornitos Mango Tequila Seltzer: The aroma leads with bright mango. The sweet mango entry builds to a juicy mango and agave peak. It fades with citrus, mango, and earthy agave. The finish leaves tangy mango, lime peel, and plata tequila taste.

    Grade: B

Hornitos Black Barrel Anejo Tequila Tasting Notes

    • 100% pure agave
    • 40% alcohol by volume / 80 proof
    • Approximately $30 for 750ml bottle

Hornitos Black Barrel Tequila is triple aged. It starts by aging in traditional American Oak barrels for 12 months. It is then placed in deep charred American Oak barrels for four months. The last round of aging occurs in specially toasted American Oak barrels for two more months. These different aging processes contribute to Black Barrels complex whiskey notes, its smooth character, beautiful color, and creamy texture.

From the look of the bottle I thought for sure Hornitos Black Barrel tequila would be much darker. Its more copper to amber in color than anything else. The aroma is classic tequila with faint wood aroma. It is grassy with light floral sweetness.

There is very little burn when tasted neat. Definitely smooth. The grassy flavor leans more toward sharp rather than that of lighter milkweed flavors. It contains light viscosity, but not too thin. Black Barrel is rather tasty with lots of flavor and hint of fruited floral in the finish.

Official Hornitos tasting notes add almond to the aroma and hints of vanilla in the taste.

Overall, this makes terrific sipping tequila. It would also be great in choice cocktails.

Hornitos Tequila recommends the Black Ginger using Black Barrel. If you like the classic Moscow Mule but want to mix it up Jalisco style, the Black Ginger is perfect.

Review: Hornitos Plata Reposado And Anejo Tequila

[BUY] Sauza Hornitos Lime Shot Tequila (RECOMMENDED) at ...

Hornitos is known for its trademark Reposado tequila with the bright green label. But now Hornitos expands in a natural direction: With both a Plata tequila and an aged Anejo, to round out the line with one of each of the three traditional tequila varieties. I tried them all side by side and against some competition, too, to see how well the expansion went. All are 80 proof.

Hornitos Plata Tequila is a straightforward, unaged tequila, very crisp and having that trademark tequila kick, an almost medicinal note that makes it bad for sipping straight but good for mixing. Hornitos Plata is as good as any silver Ive tried. It would be fine in a Mexican Martini or a Frozen Margarita. B+ / $25

Hornitos Reposado Tequila, the old guard, is aged in oak for two months, giving it a pale yellow tone and smoothing out the tequila. Its a very creamy tequila, but oddly was my least favorite of the three. Sure, its a far better choice for sipping straight than the Plata, but its undertones of vanilla and oak are too nuanced to make it all that interesting in the long run. As a Margarita ingredient, it would be fine, though. B / $26

The prices arent bad on all of these Id highly recommend tequila fans pick up a bottle of the Anejo, which is priced to move.

    Tequila Alternatives To Hornitos Tequila

    • Jose Cuervo: Jose Cuervo is just a couple dollars cheaper per bottle than Hornitos. Hornitos generally has a better taste and quality, so we recommend Hornitos.
    • 1800: 1800 is very similar in price to Hornitos. They are similar in quality as well, so this ones up to your personal preference. 1800 may be a little smoother as a sipping tequila, but Hornitos has a lot more variety to choose from.
    • Patron: Patron is another enormous tequila brand, and also similar in price to Hornitos. Some people swear by Patron, but we find the quality of Hornitos to be better in almost any situation, whether in a shot or a margarita. If Hornitos is unavailable, Patron is an okay substitute.
    • Don Julio: Don Julio is very well regarded, and it should be. Its incredibly smooth and versatile, and fantastic in any setting. The only downside to Don Julio is that its very expensive with prices near $50 a bottle.

This product is clearly leaning on the companies whisky making expertise, its a really good Añejo considering the base ingredient. Classic example of how the use of oak can mask blemishes in a Blanco.

Heavy wood nose with fruit, nuts and spices. Flavor slaps you with a bitter resin note. Fruit and agave are overpowered by the heavy oak and bourbon flavors. A little caramel is attempting to peak through.

Eh, it’s pretty good for a mass-market añejo, but I’m tasting the mass market more than I’m tasting the agave or the barrel. I’d rather pay up.

Amber color 3 of 4, with orange tones and golden shades, brilliant, clean and transparent. Nose notes, aromas of cooked agave, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, orange blossom, woods and dried fruit, aroma promise of black pepper.Mouth notes, a little astringent with good in flavor, sweet, velvety in mouth and with a good finish, in the back taste confirms black pepper. What Does Plata Tequila Mean

Blanco tequila, also known as silver or plata, is most usually colourless transparent tequila but not necessarily so as these unaged tequilas may be aged in oak or Holm oak for up to 60 days. Although blanco tequilas are usually unaged, they are often rested in stainless-steel tanks to allow oxidisation.

    How Is Hornitos Tequila Made

Hornitos most basic tequila, Hornitos Plata, is made from blue agave. Blue agave is a plant that grows specifically in the arid and dry climate of Mexicos many deserts. The fruit of the blue agave plant is harvested, baked to release its juices and begin to cook off the fruits natural sugars, and is then ground down into a fine paste. Hornitos Plata isnt aged for very long, or at all, resulting in a tequila that is completely clear and lacking any hints of earthy and wooden tones.

Hornitos Reposado is a tequila that is aged in massive oak barrels for a minimum of two months. This distilling period allows the tequila to draw out the flavor of the wood, as well as its color, resulting in a final product that has a light blond hue. Reposado is the perfect tequila to sip slowly or to mix into your favorite cocktail.

Hornitos also offers the Honritos Anjeo, one of their tequilas that is left to age for a longer period of time. While Anejo follows the same first few steps of tequila production, this particular batch is left to age for a minimum of a year in American oak barrels. As a result, this tequila is a rich and golden brown color and has pulled a lot of its earthy and smooth flavors from the wood.

    Hornitos Plata Tequila Tasting Notes

    Hornitos Reposado Tequila 750ml
    • 100% pure agave
    • 40% alcohol by volume / 80 proof
    • Approximately $20 for a 750ml bottle

Hornitos Plata is clear. The aroma is that of fresh mown grass sweet like taking in a big breath of spring. There are lilting floral aromas with vanilla. Its almost like the faint sweet vanilla aroma in the air when baking fresh sugar cookies. There is no burn detected on the nose.

The taste is quite pleasant. There is faint burn when tasted neat. Again, I detect milkweed grassiness with floral sweetness. The spirit rounds out over the tongue with great full mouthfeel. I taste vanilla bean and marshmallow without all the sugary sweetness. Perhaps more like marshmallow fluff. The taste lingers nicely on the palate.

If it were possible to drink in a soft fluffy cloud, I imagine this would be it.

Official Hornitos Tequila tasting notes mention almond in the aroma and clove spice with wood and herbal notes.

This tequila would be great in a Margarita of course, but it is equally refreshing in a classic Paloma cocktail. By the way, if at all possible use fresh squeezed grapefruit and lime juices. It makes this drink so much better. I like to use ruby red grapefruit when its available.
