Rmy Martin: The Only Cognac House Founded By A Winemake

The Cognac Fine Champagne appellation applies to all cognacs produced by Rémy Martin. To put it another way, they must contain at least 50% Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie. André Renaud and Rémy Martin have chosen this approach exclusively since 1948. Our Cellar Master, Remy Martin XO, blends hundreds of eaux-de-vie with his expertise in creating this signature wine. The blending technique used by the Cellar Master allows us to create a full-bodied, aromatic expression of this XO Cognac Fine Champagne. This is an exceptional scent that has a powerful yet understated aroma. It is the noun that refers to wine. The only Cognac house founded by a winemaker is Rémy Martin. André Renaud has been making wine for over thirty years. The majority of cognac is made from Ugni Blanc grapes, while the majority of Champagne is made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier grapes. Even though Champagne and Cognac are made in very different regions, they have the same characteristics. If you want to make a brandy, it must be made from grapes grown in the Cognac region, and if you want to make a champagne, it must be made from grapes grown in the Champagne region.

The History Behind Remy Martin Cognac

Remy Martin is named after its founder, Remy Martin, who was a winegrower in southwestern France. He started a trading house of cognac in the year 1724, and after his death in 1773, his grandson Remy took care of his business.

During the 17th century, French people could not grow wine yards privately. But since King Louis XV loved the cognac produced by Remy Martin, he gave special permission to plant new wine yards for Remy Martin in 1738.

After World War II, Remy Martin partnered with the Cellar Master, Andre Renaud, to create fine champagne in 1927. Later, Renauds son-in-law, Andre HeriardDubreuil, took over the house in 1965.

This is the only brand to expertise in making fine Champagne cognac, which appoints Pierrette Trichet, the first woman, as a cellar master in 2003. The current cellar master, Baptiste Loiseau, joined them in 2014, leading the brand to make innovative yet traditionally fine cognacs.

Brief History Of Rmy Martin

Founded in 1724, Rémy Martin took its name from the owner himself. It is often linked with luxury and sophistication. It sets the bar up high by taking over the global market with its multi skyrocketing sales. Producing its first-ever bottle in less than a hundred years and receiving recognition from King Louis XV of France, theres no wonder it is considered as one of the oldest and biggest cognac brands in the world.

Being the only Cognac house founded by a winemaker, it takes pride in producing grapes from two top wine-growing Cognac regions of France: Petite Champagne and Grande Champagne. What sets Rémy Martin apart from the other big four Cognac houses is that it is not only aged at the standard of 6 years, but instead for lengthy periods of 10 to 37 years. Experience how wonderful it would be to take a sip of this 300-year old work of art.

Rmy Martin Earned The Accord Royal In 1738

Rémy Martin VSOP Fine Champagne Cognac, 70cl

Cognac is a wine-based liquor that goes through a double distillation process in small, copper pot stills with a history dating back to the 1600s . This double-distillation is the main difference between Cognac and Armagnac, as the other French brandy distills only once.

In 1724, a wine grower named Rémy Martin began producing Cognac within Charente in the heart of the Cognac region. The first bottles were released a decade later and labeled under his name, reports Kuletos. The brandy quickly gained recognition for its quality, specifically with the King of France.

At the time, the land was owned by the crown, and it was illegal for wine growers to plant new vines to expand a winerys production without the Kings permission. In 1738, King Louis XV granted the producer an accord royal , allowing for the rare privilege to expand the vineyard due to his enjoyment and appreciation of the young wine growers brandy, the cocktail bar adds.

Diffords Guide shares that fruit from those vines found its way into Rémy Martins Cognac production 14 years later. In 1997, La Maison Rémy Martins third cellar master for the producer, Georges Clot, blended the first bottles of the 1738 Accord Royal Cognac. Blending various age styles in one bottle and labeling it without an age designation, the Cognac became a tribute to the prestigious decree the House received so many years before.

Reasons Why You Should Try Remy Martin

There are many great cognacs available on the market today. Still, Remy Martin stands above the rest with its ability to provide you with rich tastes and aromas that give you an unmatched experience.

If youre considering trying this fine liquor brand, here are three reasons why you should buy Remy Martin over any other brand of cognac or scotch whisky.

Fetty Wap Loves Rmy Martin 1738 Accord Royal

Cognacs tie with African American culture spans decades, with Cognac becoming a favorite with rap stars, musicians, and athletes. Slate reports this liking dates back to the first and second World Wars when African Americans soldiers began sipping the brandy in French cafes while stationed in Cognac fighting for the allies. Through the 1920s and 1930s, Black American musicians embraced the liquor while becoming permanent fixtures in jazz clubs throughout Paris.

They found an appreciation for a spirit and people that celebrated their culture, unlike at home in America, where whiskey brands often focused on Southern nationalism, with brands named after Confederate leaders, Slate adds.

One of Rémy Martins most prominent present-day fans is New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap, a 1738 lover who believes it is the best liquor in the world. He loves it so much that his loyal entourage is affectionately known as the Rémy Boyz. The rapper told Rolling Stone that the pack drinks up to 20 bottles of the Accord Royal a night. Waps hit Trap Queen, which hit the No. 2 slot on Billboards Hot 100 in 2015, includes a nod to the Cognac and his beloved gang of brothers in the opening lyrics.
