Who Makes Peanut Butter Whiskey

How Skrewball Brought Peanut Butter Whiskey To The World

Steven and Brittany Yeng, co-founders of Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey

Skrewball

When Steven and Brittany Yeng came up with the idea of Skrewball, many of the people they talked with scoffed at the idea of a peanut butter whiskey. Fast forward to today and Skrewball has become of the fastest growing liquor brands in history. I sat down with the husband-and-wife co-founders to talk about their unique journey, what motivated them to launch the brand, and why they celebrate screwballs and misfits.

Dave Knox: What is the story behind Skrewball?

Steven Yeng: Skrewball is the worlds first peanut butter whiskey. Most people wonder, why peanut butter and whiskey? When people hear of it, their first reaction is either you’re messing with my whiskey or you’re messing with my peanut butter. Our story actually started in Cambodia where I was born. My parents survived the genocide in that country and lost many in their family including my grandparents and my aunt and uncle. When I was around 1 year old, I caught polio, which affected my right leg and literally paralyzed me overnight. My parents decided to leave everything and sneak into Thailand. After 6 years in less-than-ideal conditions, our prayers were answered when a couple in San Diego sponsored us into America. When they first saw us, we were skin and bones so they gave us a basket of food that was bread, peanut butter and fruits. And there was my first love of peanut butter.

Screwball Whiskey Peanut Butter Cup Shots

These shots are an output of peanut butter whiskey, milk, and coffee liquor. So take a shaker, add whiskey, milk, and coffee liquor, add some ice cubes and shake it. Now add the liquid into your desired glass and serve it. Before doing this, if you want to make it look more appealing, melt some peanut butter cups and take some golden sprinkles. Take the glass, dip it in melted chocolate, and immediately dip it in sprinkles. Take extra peanut butter cups, dip them in melted chocolate and directly keep it on the glass and leave it to dry, now pour the drink, and enjoy.

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey Partners With Infinium Spirits For Nationwide Distribution

SAN DIEGO Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey has announced its national partnership with Infinium Spirits to expand across the U.S. The partnership comes on the heels of Skrewballs success in its hometown market and high statewide and national demand for the first real peanut butter whiskey.

Launched in San Diego in July 2018 by husband and wife duo, Steven Yeng and Brittany Merrill Yeng, Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey gained quick notoriety with locals. After the couple experimented making unmistakable peanut butter whiskey cocktails for family and friends, it was a hit and only made sense to brand and bottle the idea. The Yengs began experimenting to come up with the perfect peanut butter flavor, using only vegan-friendly premium ingredients. The first-of-its-kind peanut butter flavored whiskey actually tastes like peanut butter and can be enjoyed standalone or as part of a premium cocktail, several of which can be found on the companys website.

Since entering the market, Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey has been presented with several awards, including a Double Gold Medal for Best Flavored Whiskey in the 2018 New York World Wine & Spirits Competition. With interest growing, the Yengs made the decision to work with a trusted partner and renowned leader in the spirits industry, Infinium Spirits, to maintain a high level of quality and reach their consumer demands.

They decided to self-distribute due to their knowledge that there was a market for their product. That’s because the idea for their whiskey was born from their research and development done over several years at Bar 1502 across the street from the OB Noodle House, two hospitality businesses owned and operated by Steve and his family. A self-professed peanut butter fanatic, he had created a shot that outsold all other shots at the bar by a ratio of five to one. They had people coming in from all over to drink it.

The label of Skrewball highlights their focus on being different.

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey

Their first drop of four cases of Skrewball to a local liquor store sold out in less than ten minutes, driven by regular patrons of their bar who were alerted by staff and the Yengs. That led to a fifteen-case order that sold out in less than four hours. A four hundred case order followed, which they could not fill because they did not have enough inventory. Everything, in the beginning, was bottled, labeled, and packaged by the Yeng’s from liquid they contract brewed based upon a recipe that Brittany helped create with her masters degree in chemistry.

That led to them signing on with Infinium Spirits, a global spirits company that rolled the brand out nationally. They quickly landed in a wide swath of major retailers.

It Tastes Like Caramel Popcorn Melted Down Into A Drink

Best Peanut Butter & Jelly Berry Cocktail With Hard ...

I know this is supposed to be peanut butter. However, it tastes like caramel popcorn melted down into a drink in the best possible way. I loathe whiskey, so I was scared, but it makes it palatable.

Drinking this makes me feel like Im in Harry Potter. Partially because its buttery, sweet and delicious, like how butterbeer would taste. Probably more so because I keep taking sips of it and its making me buzzed to the point where Im about to convince myself Im an actual wizard.

The Best Peanut Butter Whiskey

  • Pin

Whiskey itself dates back quite far in history, and flavored whiskey, in general, is not new. Peanut butter whiskey, however, is pretty new to the scene. Today, many brands are producing their version of peanut butter whiskey, but it all began with what many still consider the best peanut butter whiskey Skrewball.

Skrewball as a company is as new as the peanut butter phenomenon as they were created because of the idea. The whole thing began with a bartender in Ocean Beach California. He owned a bar that was well known and loved within the local community for being a place one can go for community, support, and a great time.

The peanut butter idea originated as a shot but eventually evolved into a full-on drink. Not many were originally on board with the idea, but its now a staple on the menu at this bar. It quickly swept the rest of the nation, as well.

Currently, Skrewball is known for its peanut butter invention and nothing else. But, most companies go on to create several collections and a wider range of spirits so who knows what the future will bring. Perhaps their next idea will be even crazier than peanut butter.

Theres no doubt that Skrewball is still the go-to for most, but that doesnt mean other companies arent doing a good job. There are plenty of other options out there if youre looking for something a little different, but still, peanut butter flavored.

Peanut Butter Whiskey Is The Most Polarizing Pairing Yet Or Is It

There are plenty of questionable pairings when it comes to peanut butter, but none have ever been quite this intriguing.

Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey is exactly what it sounds like: a PB-flavored libation, and not, unfortunately, something you can smush between two pieces of bread with some jelly on top.

According to an email from the brand, the polarizing peanut-y beverage is made in a lab to perfect the almost impossible peanut butter flavor, which is made from real, natural peanuts. After launching the whiskey in San Diego in 2018, the beverage makers teamed up with a spirits company to expand distribution nationwide.

Its great news for peanut butter lovers and terrible news for whiskey purists. But, before we judge a book by its nutty-sounding cover, whiskey and peanut butter enthusiasts alike at HuffPost thought it only proper to taste it for ourselves.

Some were surprised to find out they actually gasp liked it, some had trouble finding a peanut butter flavor at all, and more than one person pointed out that if nothing else, it would make for a pretty stellar ice cream pairing. The best assessment of all, though, was inspired by the smell alone.

The scent is both attractive and repulsive at the same time, one colleague said. Isnt that what a smell should be?

Take a look at HuffPosters reviews below, and head to Skrewball to find out where you can purchase the whiskey if youre feeling nutty enough to try it yourself.

Ingredients For Skrewball Peanut Butter And Jelly Shot

  • Skrewball Peanut Butter Whisky: Its widely available at retailers, restaurants, and bars across the country.
  • Raspberry Liquor: There are several options here. Chambord is a popular black raspberry liqueur that can be found in most modern bars. You may also use Framboise, a raspberry-flavored brandy. Non-alcoholic substitutes include raspberry or grape juice, syrup or jam. If using a jam or jelly, zap it in the microwave until it becomes liquid. Consider adjusting the amount of whisky you use based on the alcoholic content of your raspberry flavoring.

How To Drink Peanut Butter Whiskey

Every time I try a fun spirit in a liquor store and bring a bottle home I face the same question that you do: what goes with peanut butter whiskey ?

Its a fact salespeople and marketers know: if we taste something were much more likely to buy it. Its why Costco was staffed with tasting stations before the pandemic.

And while that half-ounce of flavored whiskey in the liquor store tastes delicious, its a different story once you get a 750 mL home and wonder what to make with it. Here are some very simple peanut butter whiskey drink recipes to make at home:

Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey

Fort Collins Distillery Introduces Peanut Butter Whiskey

Bird Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey is a surprisingly affordable bottle for the strength and quality youre getting. It offers a solid, varied flavor profile without veering too far away from peanut butter. Many say it rivals the original Skrewball quite well.

The nose offers warm peanuts with a hint of wood and char. The palate brings aromatic notes of vanilla and sweet caramel in the background of smooth peanut butter flavors. The finish is slow and warm with more peanuts and a hint of sweet caramel at the very end.

The flavor is smooth and bold enough to sip neat while also pairing quite well in many fun cocktails. Its bottled at 80 proof which is a little more than most others of its kind. The additional alcohol balances the sweetness just a little without making it too harsh by any means.

We can thank husband-wife duo Steven Yeng and Brittany Merril Yeng for bringing us this delectable oddball spirit. Peanut butter is deeply personal for the California couple. Yeng, a Polio survivor, was born in 1980s Cambodia. His family fled the country when he was one, spending years in a refugee camp in Thailand before being sponsored for passage to San Diego. When they landed on the Golden Coast, Yeng was fed a foreign new ingredient to get some meat on his bones: peanut butter sandwiches.

His love of the sticky delicious paste grew from there. When he opened a restaurant, peanut butter was a mainstay on the menu slathered on wings, snuck into fried rice and infused into peanut butter whiskey cocktails. People loved peanut butter whiskeys unique but comforting flavours, describes Merill Yeng.
