Is Tito’s Potato Vodka

What Is Absolut Vodka Made From

Tito of Tito’s Vodka Interview: Vodka made from Corn

Now, one of the most popular and ancient brands in the USA is Absolut Vodka. What is Absolut made from?

1979 was the year when the USA, instead of New York, launched Absolut Vodka. The recipe for this famous brand is around thirty years older. A Stockholm antique store had this recipe in a medicine flask that dates back to the 18th century.

It has a specialty that it has nothing other than natural ingredients. Also, no added sugar is used here. In 1879, its founder Lars Olsson Smith, introduced this Vodka which was distilled multiple times, giving its unique taste .

Water, along with winter wheat, are the essential ingredients of Absolut vodka. The water is mostly very much pure. This is because the primary water source is a deep well situated in Ahus, and hence it is free from several impurities.

Winter wheat is produced differently than most other crops. It usually takes a year. You sow it in one fall and harvest it in the following one. Thus, for this, it has a hard texture in its grains. Fertilizer usage is also minimal, giving Absolut Vodka the flavor famous in the world.

Titos is very, very good vodka. The disapointing thing though is it use to be exceedingly cheap, the word got out and now theyve doubled the price. Its just something personal, but when this happens this really urchs me, so I stopped buying it as a personal revolt. I allways see it on the shelf at twice what I use to pay for it, and think to my selfthats really good vodka, but Im not buying it at that price.I should just give up the personal stand and bit the bullet, because it really is an exceptional vodka, even if I have to now pay twice what I use to for it.

A buddy of mine recently brought a frozen bottle of Titos from his freezer to an Eagles game tailgate. I expected a Gordons type vodka but was very pleasantly surprised. It is excellent. I drank a quarter of the bottle straight from the bottle. Needless to say it was an ugly tail gate and game. Ive been a 100% Stoli drinker for years. I am switching, or at least, splitting time between these two vodka from now on. Great site. Thnaks for the review and confirmation.

Titos Handmade Vodka: First Impressions From A Liquor Snob

Upon first glance, Titos Handmade Vodka appears to be keeping it real. Despite its supposed quality and its ever increasing reputation, the bottle is kept extremely simple and non-flashy, as is the label with its simple print and subtle logo. Despite it being churned out by the millions of bottles per year, you get the impression that not a whole lot has changed since the product was first crafted and bottled. It still has the look of a handmade craft product. The back label, in an equally non-flashy way, carries a bit of information about the philosophy behind the product and the process through which it was created. Here, too, you get the feeling that not much has changed and this, also, is a good thing.

The first test of any vodka: How does it fare neat?

Examining the content of the bottle it is as expected colorless and crystal clear. The smell, as could also be expected from an odorless spirit is almost non-existent: a trace of alcohol and a faint whiff of sweet corn. Titos, in a sense, has the look and smell that you would expect of a premium vodka, crystal clear and by no means off-putting on the nose.

This is a great Vodka. Its like Kettle One but with a slight less bitter after taste and smoother. Not to mention slightly cheaper. You will find that you feel a bit better in the morning than drinking some of the other vodkas, at least in my experience. Its my preferred de facto standard vodka.

Its great mixed, straight on ice or in dirty martinis. If you havent tried it you should. Why spend $30 on a vodka when you can spend $20 after tax for something that in many instances is superior?

Finally got around to trying this vodka. Normally, it sells for $20 or more in my area, so I wasnt in any hurry. I recently saw a fifth for $16.99 and I had to act. I took a cold shot and was impressed by how easy it was to drink. It went down easy like Svedka, but there was no bad aftertaste. I followed with a shot of Sobieski, which was more noticable going down and had a stronger aftertaste. I capped it off by shooting Titos one more time and came away impressed. Titos is probably the best vodka Ive had thus far. Of the 16 brands Ive tried in 2009, this one is tops.

How Is Vodka Made

Both potato vodka and grain vodka are created the same way, and there are four main steps in the process of creating vodka:

  • Fermentation
  • Dilution
  • Filtration

Every type of vodka goes through each of these steps in order to be drinkable. After fermentation , distillation takes place in order to purify the vodka and remove any unwanted elements. Distillation also increases the ABV content because it removes excess water.

In the US, all types of vodka must have a minimum ABV of 40%. Basically, potato and grain vodka only have a difference of ingredients, but not much else.

Thirteenth Colony Distilleries Southern Vodka In Americus Georgia

Titos Vodka Review

One of Georgias first legal stills, Thirteenth Colony Distilleries was started in 2009 by a small group of friends who had only planned to make jars of moonshine to give as Christmas gifts. Beyond their grain-based vodka, Thirteenth Colony also sells a range of aged whiskeys.

The driest of the four vodkas tasted here, Thirteenth Colonys nose shows hay and cut-grass notes, which bump into lemon juice, salt and a quinine character on the palate. It finishes clean, with a firm ethanol burn and broad structure.

After discovering that I preferred Ketel One to Grey Goose, the next vodka I had a chance to experiment with was Titos. I was determined to shoot as high as I could in test tasting vodkas to learn where my newbie taste buds would take me compared to what I was reading at this forum, and I was thrilled to find Titos at a local liquor store. Later that night, I made a vodka martini straight up with olives, and was floored by how smooooth it was with Titos. Wow! It reminded me of the Ketel One martini that I had a couple nights before when dining out, but was even smoother and had even less hint of bitterness. Both were similarly impressive in keeping down the alcohol burn upon swallowing, but Titos was less oily and made for a crisper drink. Ketel One had beaten Grey Goose, and now Titos Handmade beat Ketel One, in turn. Very nice!

Potatoes: An Origin Story

Potatoes were not the original ingredient used for making vodka. That privilege goes to wheat or rye. Thats because potatoes are not native to Europe they originally came from Peru. The crop wasnt introduced to the vodka belt nations until the 17th century.

Potatoes were originally a luxury of the wealthy and didnt become a staple crop for the masses until the 18th century. How did that happen? It happened when the Swedish scientist and agronomist Countess Eva Ekeblad discovered that potatoes could be used to make flour and wait for it alcohol!

For her discovery, Ekeblad was admitted to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1746 at the young age of 24. You can bet that was quite an induction party!

The use of potatoes in the production of vodka picked up steam over the next 200 hundred years, only experiencing a brief decline during the great potato blight of the 19th century. Among the traditional materials used to produce vodka, potatoes tend to be the most labor intensive because preparing them for the mash stage requires additional steps, like peeling the skin.

Compared to wheat- or grain-based vodkas, a potato vodka is usually a bit heavier with a dense feel in the mouth, while the flavor profile tends to be more flavorless with a bit more natural sweetness.

These qualities make potato vodkas great for use in cocktails, since they dont overpower with their own natural flavor.

Harsh, horrible smell and a flavor to match. I dont understand what people see in Titos. Not smooth, not good. I would imagine this is similar to what gasoline or nail polish tastes like, because it certainly smells about the same.Does it go bad? Because the bottle I bought was awful.

What About Flavored Vodkas

The Method Behind Tito’s Handmade Vodka

Flavored vodkas are trendy and obviously have developed a huge following. If you need vodka that’s not made from gluten grains, you do have some excellent alternatives: try Iceberg Vodka’s Chocolate Mint or Devotion’s Blood Orange, for starters.

Unfortunately, sticking with gluten-free vodka will mean you can’t experiment with some of the top flavored vodkas on the market today, such as Effen’s cucumber vodka . But any of Smirnoff’s wide variety of flavors should be safe, since Smirnoff is made from corn.

US residents should have no problems getting their hands on this all-American potato vodka. Its quite neutral in taste with just a few subtle hints of herbs, citrus, and pepper as it finishes. Cheers Michigan Potato Vodka In A Hawaiian

With things opening up as the COVID-19 pandemic eases, Tammy Coxen with Tammys Tastings and I decided it was time to start visiting the mixologists and distillers who are the driving forces behind the craft cocktail movement.

Our first stop was Griffin Claw which has two locations in Birmingham and Rochester Hills. We visited the Rochester Hills site. Griffin Claw is, known for its brewing, but it distills spirits too.

Griffin Claw has been distilling since day one. We have our own unique brands of spirits that are available only in our taproom. Selections include our own Grain Vodka, Potato Vodka, Gin, Rum, Whiskey, and Schnapps. Our German Schnapps Still brings a ton of character and history to our spirits, according to its website.

One of those spirits is fairly unique, a potato vodka. Now, you might think all vodka is made from potato, but as Tammy noted when she was talking with head brewer and distiller Dan Rogers, it’s not.

TC: The vast majority of vodka we drink in the United States is made from grain either corn if you’re drinking Titos or wheat if you’re drinking kind of more artisanal stuff. But you guys actually make a grain vodka and a potato vodka.

DR: Our grain vodka is 50 percent barley and 50 percent wheat. The potato vodka is and it’s unique to a lot of potatoes vodkas because I’ll guarantee it is 100 percent potato. There’s no grain in there. It’s 100 percent potato.

Idaho potatoes are used as the base for this US vodka, which is both excellent and affordable. Its a bit thicker than other brands and has a noticeably sweet taste that makes it quite pleasant to sip on its own. Its perfect for sweeter cocktails, however, especially those with ingredients that pair well with the marshmallow notes in the finish.

What Type Of Drunk Will Tequila/vodka Make Me

Again, it mostly depends on the individual. Some people will react differently to vodka than others, and the same goes for tequila. Our inhibitions are lowered when we drink alcohol, and the type of alcohol we consume can also be a factor in this. According to research and studies, tequila is known for creating temporary memory loss. Vodka is known for destroying verbal filters. Whether you want to forget parts of the night or have no control over what your mouth will say is up to you. The best way to find the right answer is to try it yourself. Drink responsibly and legally, of course.

Pau Maui Vodka Isn’t For Everyone

Pineapple is a controversial fruit. Some people love a piña colada more than life itself. Others can’t stand pineapple on top of pizza, and some find even the scent of the tropical fruit off-putting altogether. So this next vodka might be a winner for some and an absolute loser for others. The Pau Maui Vodka, intermixed with the flavor of pineapple, goes for $19.98 a bottle and is the creation of Mark Nigbur. According to Flaviar, Nigbur and the LeVecke family created a micro-distillery in Maui and went to town, creating the Hali’imale Distilling Company and the Pau Maui spirit in the process.

So how do the reviews for this particular vodka run? A lot of them go in completely different directions, with some being harsher than others. For instance, one customer said that the vodka had a “pretty harsh flavor” and that they preferred using it as a mixing spirit rather than something to drink straight. Another reviewer said that the vodka was “on the low end of average,” and yet another said that it had a “very strong nose curling aftertaste.” So we’ll leave the decision to try this one up to you.

Price Of Vodka And Tequila

The rule of thumb with alcohol is: the better the quality of the spirit, the more expensive it will be. Most connoisseurs will attest to this because they will be able to taste a clear difference between cheap and expensive spirits. Also, the more popular a drink is, the cheaper it is more likely to be. As vodka is the most popular alcoholic drink in America, it is generally cheaper than tequila. Most popular vodkas tend to average around $25 a bottle. Tequila is less popular than vodka but still an affordable option. Most tequilas average around $25-30 a bottle, with the best tequilas being $40 or more. The price of vodka and tequila may be evident in bars and clubs, where shots may differ in price as well as cocktails – though this depends on what other drinks are mixed in.

Tito’s Handmade Vodka – The Story

Titos is now the go-to for shots and mixers in the Synthahol household. Weve made believers out of countless followers as well. This is simply smoother and cleaner than vodkas at twice the price. Its extremely difficult to get people out of this grey goose or nothing mindset, but Titos is the weapon of choice for that discussion. At around $21 for 750 mL here in Honolulu, its pretty reasonable. Sometimes we catch it on sale, but $21 is well worth it.
