How To Make Jello Shots With Tequila

How Long Do Jello Shots Last

Tequila Sunrise Jell-O Shots | Delish

If you keep your jello shots in the refrigerator in a tray with a plastic or aluminum cover, they can last for over a week some enthusiasts say that theyll stay good for up to 10 days.

It may seem like a good idea to freeze your jello shots to get a longer life out of them, but the nature of gelatin makes this a counterproductive idea. When they thaw, theyll lose the structure and the texture that makes jello shots so appealing.

Pia Colada Jello Shots

Piña Colada Jello Shots are a fun and yummy twist on regular jello shots. They taste just like a tropical Piña Colada cocktail and theyre so easy to make for your next party!

Other adult options to consider the next time youre hosting a get together include our Mudslide, Blue Hawaiian Jello Shots, and Tequila Sunrise.

Jello shots are easy to make, portable, taste great, and guarantee smiles when you hand them out, making them a great option for any party. And theyre versatile, using any type of jello flavor and liquor. We converted our favorite Pina Colada cocktail into Pina Colada Jello Shots for a super delicious dessert boozy jello shot.

This Jello shot recipe contains the classic Piña Colada ingredients, which are mixed together, poured into cups, then chilled until firm. We then top them off with fresh whipped cream, a small pineapple wedge, and a maraschino cherry for a festive tropical treat!

How To Make Margarita Jello Shots

To make it easier to transport the jello shots into the fridge, I set the jello shots cups out on a cookie sheet before I pour the jello into them.

This also prevents any jello from spilling on the counter

To make the jello shots, start by boiling some water.

Mix 1 cup of the boiling water with the lime jello crystals in a bowl.

While not absolutely necessary, using a bowl with a pouring spout* or a large measuring cup definitely makes getting the jello into the shot cups a lot easier later on.

Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots

Its time for another fun batch of Jello shots! I made these Tequila Sunrise jello shots for a neighbor get together and they were a hit!

Tequila Sunrise was my go-to drink in college, so I thought it would make a perfect jello shot! Plus, I had tequila leftover from making margaritas, so why not? For these shots I used orange juice in the orange layer instead of water to really make the colors pop. The orange juice mixed with the orange jello really made a super bright orange layer!

Since Tequila Sunrise drinks are made with grenadine on the bottom, I went with cherry jello for the bottom layer. I decided to keep the layers equal so none of the cherry jello would be wasted.

Tip: When making layered shots be sure to let the first layer set fully before adding the second layer so you get a defined line between the layers! But, if you want the colors to slightly mix together, you can shorten the setting time so the first layer is set, but not too firm. This way you get a blend, as shown in these shots!

Now on to the recipe!

Can You Make Jello Shots Using Sugar Free Jello

Yes you can. And with the selection of sugar free gelatin available these days you can make a slew of drinks with them. And while I used lime gelatin for a classic margarita, you could use additional flavors like raspberry, strawberry or lemon instead.

You could also make these with unflavored gelatin. It would be a bit more difficult though. I would use lime juice and sweetener instead but you would have to play around with the amounts of water.

How Do You Make Strong Jello Shots

However, if youre looking for jello shots that have more of a kick, you can change the amounts of Margarita mix and tequila.

If you really want strong jello shots, you could even eliminate the Margarita mix altogether and use 1 cup of Tequila .

Just make sure that the total for the two of them mixed together comes to 1 cup. .

I do this by pouring the Margarita mix and the tequila into a measuring cup and making sure that it measures 1 cup. Then add them to the jello mixture together.

How Long Do Jello Shots With Tequila Last In The Refrigerator

How to Make Strawberry Margarita Jell-O Shots | MyRecipes

These take at least 2 hours to set. Just be sure to check them before serving and add chill time if needed.

Make sure to store these in the refrigerator when not eating. They will last for about one week but are best if eaten in a couple of days.

I dont recommend freezing them because the texture will not hold up.

How To Make Jelly Shots

Fruity or chocolatey, simple or fancy, one thing’s for sure: jelly shots always look amazing. They’re also a fun, cool way to enjoy your favourite tipple, and the good news is they’re hard to get wrong. You can create these popular party treats with just a handful of basic ingredients.

The basic ingredients for jelly shots are pretty simple:

  • A base alcohol
  • Sugar – optional, for sweetness
  • A container or mould for your shots

The important thing to be aware of is setting time and the texture of your jelly. As a rule, the more alcohol in your shot, the more varied the texture of the jelly and the more time it will take to set. Make sure all your gelatin leaf/powder and your sugar are fully dissolved, or you’ll get a grainy, runny gel.

Feel free to experiment with flavours. Vodka is the most common alcohol used as it’s easily flavoured, but you could mix it up and try rum, tequila or your favourite spirit.

How To Make Jello Shots

  • Combine cold water and gelatin in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  • Whisk in boiling water until completely dissolved.
  • Add in mixers, juice, and alcohol.
  • Pour into 2-ounce plastic cups and refrigerate until set.
  • Garnish with fruit or other toppings if desired.
  • Cover with lids and chill until ready to serve.
  • This jello shot recipe is super easy. There arent any layers or crazy ingredients or techniques. Just basic jello shots goodness anyone the loves a good margarita will appreciate.

Does Jello Set Faster In The Freezer

If you plan to place your shots in the freezer to try to speed the setting up, be aware and dont let them stay in there too long. The reason being is it can make the jello messed up and ruin your shots. So check in about 20-30 minutes of placing in the freezer, then transfer to the fridge for the remainder of the time.

These Lime Margarita Jello Shots are not only fun but they are so tasty. Feel free to play around with the gelatin flavors if you want something different. Strawberry, raspberry, or even watermelon would be a tasty twist to your margarita!

How To Make Tequila Lime Jello Shots:

    • Clear Tequila (I used
    • Salt for garnish

You will also need clear plastic shot glasses which I found in a pack of 25 for $1 at Dollar Tree.

  • Make the Jello according to the directions on the package.
  • Allow jello mixture to reach room temperature. If you dont, the heat from the boiled jello can cook out the alcohol in the tequila.
  • Add your desired amount of tequila to the jello mixture. You can measure shot by shot or if you are making a large batch, use half of a bottle. Mix well.
  • Pour the mixture into the individual shot glasses. I found its easier to have the shot glasses on a tray before pouring to make transferring to the fridge easier. Each shot glass takes about 1/8 cup to fill.
  • Refrigerate the jello shots for at least 2 hours to allow the jello to set.
  • Serve and Enjoy!
  • These are so simple to make and they taste delicious. Sort of like mini margaritas! Great way to enjoy any party!

    How To Serve Jello Shots

We garnish our Pina Colada Jello Shots, but wait until right before serving so the whipped cream doesnt melt and the fruit stays fresh. When youre ready to enjoy them, run a dull knife around the inside edge of the container to loosen the jello and remove it. We also recommend giving your guests tasting spoons for those who dont want to swallow them all at once.

How Much Alcohol In Jello Shots

How to Make Top Shelf Sparkling Margarita Jello | Drink Recipes |

If you dont want your shots to taste like straight tequila, 1/2 cup of alcohol is a good amount to add to the shots.

If you want them a little stronger, you can add up to 2/3 cup of alcohol before the consistency doesnt start to break down. Just be careful not to add too much, or the JELLO wont become set. You want the margarita mix and alcohol together to equal one cup.

    More About This Recipe

    • This recipe brings back such fun memories! It was one of three created for a wonderful local magazine last spring, and this little article led to a lot of really nice things for my blog, Jelly Shot Test Kitchen. Not the least of which was JSTKs relationship with! A Betty Crocker blogger saw the Ocean Margarita recipe, cooked up a batch, and a few weeks and a conference call later, a wonderful friendship was born. Sigh . . . isnt life just a big fantastic set of coincidences sometimes? But, on to the recipe. So, one might ask, why Roses lime juice? Why not fresh lime or limeade or something of that nature? The answer, my dears, involves presentation. A topic near and dear to my heart. Lime juice, while tangy delicious, is a bit murky, and kind of yellow-ish to boot. Roses prepared lime juice is crystal clear which allows for a wonderfully transparent, eye-catching Caribbean blue jelly shot. As youll see, the recipe comes together in a snap. My only tip for you is regarding the garnish. The large crystal sugar is gorgeous and great fun as it adds to the mouth-feel of the jelly shot, like the salted rim of a real margarita. However, dont be tempted to apply in advance it melts so quickly! Either dip immediately before serving, or serve a small bowl of large crystal sugar alongside the jelly shots for self service dipping.

    Recipe Ingredients I Used

    Margarita Jello Shots

All you need to make this margarita jello shots recipe is a box of sugar free lime Jell-O, orange extract, tequila and limes. While lime is not my favorite flavor of Jell-O its perfect for that classic margarita flavor.

A classic margarita uses tequila, triple sec, lime juice and some sort of sweetness.

The lime gelatin has that great sweet and tart flavor and the orange extract mimics the triple sec which is an orange liqueur.

Additionally I added lime zest and a sugar/salt rim on the shots. I wanted to dress it up a bit because they were quite plain looking but I found it added a lot of flavor to the recipe.

So I zested on lime and mixed equal parts of salt and granular sweetener together on a plate and used a pinch on top and around the glass rim.
