When pairing Jim Beam with lemonade its doubly important to avoid too sweetened options, the bourbon itself will provide plenty of caramel and vanilla, so theres no need to double down!

Jack Daniels Or Jim Beam

Jim Beam vs Jack Daniels is an interesting debate. Newer whiskey drinkers may argue that they all taste the same, but the two brands have each created products that are unique and dynamic in their own way.

Jack Daniels is a brand of Tennessee whiskey which was established 147 years ago, in 1875. The founder Jack Daniel began distilling alcohol in 1875 and following the brands gold medal at the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair, the brand began growing in popularity.

Jim Beam is a Kentucky brand of bourbon whiskey, established in 1795 when the brand was still known as Old Tub. The brand began gaining popularity at a time when customers brought their own bottles to the distillery to fill with bourbon.

Jim Beam has been managed by seven generations of the same family and has been produced using the same formula and process since the 18th century.

While both brands produce whiskey, they are different and unique. Jim Beam is a bourbon while Jack Daniels is a Tennessee whiskey and is produced in Kentucky and Tennessee respectively.

Jim Beam is aged for 4 years while Jack Daniels can be aged from 4 to 12 years, and Jim Beam is stronger than Jack Daniels at 86 proof compared to the latters 80 proof.

Jim Beam Double Oakss Nose

Jim Beam Bourbon 1L
  • Notes: Wood spice, burnt caramel, orange zest
  • Nosefeel: Peppery

A beautiful, wood-driven charred fresh white Oak whiff tickles the nose. As a matter of fact, the promise from the whiskeys storyline and the marketing terminology is rather present and prominent in the olfactory perception.

Right away, Im greeted by an abundance of vanilla caramel, even though its not a typical plain-boring sweetness that one might expect. Quite the contrary, theres a heavily roasted, almost charred dry ash that elevates that vanilla sweetness and cream, taking the scents to a new level.

All in all, the nose offers a lot of depth and enough spice to balance the creamy, mellow characteristics. Speaking of spice, Im reminded of pink peppercorns, a few powdered cloves and nutmeg, all mingled in with a soft fruitiness that leans towards baked apple.

To underline that sensation, some of the baking spices one would use for this dessert are thrown in for good measure. A gentle smear of marzipan towards the very end and some more burnt caramel round off the complex scent.

How To Distinguish An Original Jim Beam Whiskey From A Fake

Popular whiskey is very often counterfeited. When choosing a drink, you need to know several features:

  • Examine the labels on the label. There should be no errors or typos. If there is an error in at least one letter, this is a 100% fake.
  • The label must be perfectly aligned. There should be no glue marks on the bottle.
  • All original bottles have a perfectly flat top of the lid. Fakes have a ribbed top.
  • There is a thin gold strip at the bottom of the lid, underneath it is the Jim Beam inscription, below which there is another thin gold strip.
  • In the original bottle, the neck has a slightly convex shape at the base. There are edges at the bottom of the neck of the original. This is due to the high complexity of the manufacturing process. In fakes, the edges are applied over the entire surface of the neck.
  • The sides of the bottle are decorated with four embossed inscriptions “ESTD 1795” located around the perimeter. There are tabs on the top and bottom of the label. There is no such thing in fakes.
  • The serial number is engraved on the bottom of the bottle. It should also be duplicated in the middle of the bottle. The number must match.
  • You should not buy elite alcohol at the market or at the street kiosk. Go to specialty stores or shopping malls for original whiskey.

How Are They Made

Jack Daniels has a well-established process to create their whiskey. A mash bill is produced grains and is combined with purified cave spring water in large tanks, and cooked.

Yeast is added to the combination and fermented for three to six days. Once the mixture has been fermented for the desired period, it is distilled to produce 140-proof whiskey.

The whiskey is then mellowed through hard sugar maple charcoal over a period of three days. This process removes the grainy flavor of the whiskey, softening it.

The whiskey is then poured into wooden barrels which are produced using white oak and are toasted and charred to the ideal level.

Most of the whiskeys color and flavor comes from the aging process so ensuring the barrels are prepared correctly is vital to the result. The filled barrels are stored for four to seven years to allow the whiskey to age perfectly.

Jim Beams recipe is not well known but a similar mash bill from corn, rye, and malted barley is used. Jim Beam adds setback to their mash bill, which is a portion of old mash from a recent distillation. Kentucky water is added to the mash bill before yeast is added.

Jim Beam Price Sizes & Buying Guide

If youre a whiskey lover, youre probably wanting an updated Jim Beam price guide! Whiskey recipes likely predate any timeline we know. However, the 1700s were the very beginning of the bourbon boom.

The Scotch, Irish, and German settlers were crafting secret family rye whiskey recipes during the late 1700s. Jacob Beam was one of them. By the 1800s, the US government started offering farmers incentives to move west.

The Westward expansion was an economic move to help expand the reach of trade lines, trains, and products. The map had to get made somehow. Jacob Beam, like many others, was using his dads whiskey recipe to make spirits, but he also grew his own corn.

Can you see where Im heading with this? He accepted the incentive, built the Jim Beam foundation, started selling barrels, and there ya have it, folks.

Jacob used the corn he grew not only did that save him money, but he created a sweeter version of whiskey bourbon anyone had currently made. Thats one of the reasons Jim Beam is a core choice at many bars. Its flavorful and consistent.

Its an excellent sipping bourbon, and it mixes well for cocktails.
