Easy like the settling sun drifting toward those rolling hills and drawing long shadows over the bluegrass, this enchanting amber nectar swirls about your snifter, animating a bouquet of sweet caramel and vanilla before bowing graciously to an enticing oaken complexity, which lures that glass to your mouth where that silken beverage unfurls across your tongue and ingratiates your senses with creamy malt and effortlessly balanced hops that softly surrender to the smooth flow of bourbon. And as you rock comfortably on your porch and admire the thoroughbreds trotting toward the barn, the bend of the whitewashed fence will draw your eye to your glass, where that spirit you behold will bring you back to your old Kentucky home.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale Review
in Beer & FoodDecember 5, 2011
Aging beer in old whiskey barrels has become a popular way to create a new and more lively beer, and old bourbon barrels are arguably the most popular choice, especially in the United States. A particularly good example of the bourbon beer trend is Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is one of beers products from the Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. The companys bourbon beer is essentially their normal Kentucky Ale aged for up to six weeks in discarded bourbon barrels, a readily available commodity in central Kentucky.
The BeerOn the nose, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale smacks of bourbon. It smells of vanilla syrup and wood, and that vanilla sweetness dominates the taste as well. This ale is sweet, full-bodied and heavy, and that thick sweetness is what separates this bourbon ale from many of its competitors. Bourbon stouts lack that quality, and many other non-stout bourbon beers are not nearly so rich and complex.
Overall, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is one of the best bourbon beers in general distribution. Ive had a few bourbon beers that were better, but they werent bottled and available on supermarket shelves.
The brewers recommend serving Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale in a snifter, where it takes on a coppery-amber color. The ale has a hefty alcohol content of 8.19%.
The PriceAs one might expect, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale isnt cheap. A four-pack usually runs about $12.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber gold with no head.
Aroma: This smells like a glass of whiskey. Im getting sweet and woody notes.
Taste: Bourbon and soda water.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and medium carbonation.
Overall: What a trip!! This is quite the gimmick, in line with Tequiza or something. I finished the beer, but it was real weird having this almost artificial whiskey bourbon flavored beer. Dont get me wrong, I love Bourbon Barrel Aged Stouts and such, this was much different.
