What Are Domestic Beers

Despite how simple and delightful beer is in its taste, the subject of beer is actually quite complicated. For example, domestic beer refers to any type of beer thats brewed in the same country where youre currently drinking it.

In the United States, domestic beer refers to any beer thats brewed in the United States. This includes well-known brands like Miller, Budweiser, Busch, and Coors, as well as smaller craft brews or microbrews you may never have heard of.

If youre in Canada, domestic beer means the same thing, but it will include different brands. Molson is one of the top domestic beers in Canada, but its considered an imported beer for the US. So, while the actual domestic beer will change from country to country, the meaning is the same everywhere.

Is Yuengling A German Beer

Yuengling is a brand of beer that originated in the United States. However, there is some debate over whether or not Yuengling is a German beer.

The Yuengling brewery was founded in 1829 by David Yuengling. At the time, it was the second largest brewery in the United States. The company is still in operation today, and is the oldest operating brewery in the United States.

There are several different theories about where the name Yuengling comes from. One theory is that it is a variation of the name Jüngling, which is German for young man. Another theory is that the name comes from the Dutch word jenever, which is a type of gin.

So is Yuengling a German beer? Its difficult to say for sure. The brewery was founded by a German immigrant, and the name may be derived from a German word. However, the beer is not actually brewed in Germany. Instead, it is brewed in the United States.

Actually This Is A Story About Lobbying

The fight over adjunct ingredients was brewing at the same time as a fight between beermakers in Congress. The Brewers Association is in a lobbying battle with the Beer Institute, a lobbying group that includes the big brewers, over a bill to reduce federal excise taxes.

All beer produced and sold in the US is subject to a federal tax of $18 per barrel, with a lower rate of $7 for the first 60,000 barrels for brewers producing fewer than 2 million barrels per year.

There are two bills in Congress to reduce the excise taxes for some brewers. The Small BREW Act, supported by the Brewers Association, would cut the tax to $3.50 per barrel for very small breweries producing fewer than 7,143 barrels, then gradually raise the tax as the number of barrels increased, topping out at $18 per barrel for breweries with at least 2 million barrels. But the tax cuts would only apply to breweries producing fewer than 6 million barrels per year.

The Fair BEER Act, supported by the Beer Institute, would structure taxes in a similar way, but doesn’t have the 6 million barrel cutoff so it would benefit the biggest multinational beer companies as well.

So by bringing Yuengling on board as a “craft brewery,” the Brewers Association isn’t just expanding the definition of craft beer. It’s also expanding its own power, by getting the fourth-biggest brewery in the US on its side.

What Is The Oldest Brewery In The United States

Yuengling: America’s Oldest Brewery

D.G. Yuengling & Son is the oldest American brewery. It was opened in 1829. Brewing commenced with early faves like the Lord Chesterfield, which sounds amazingly Pennsylvanian.

German Immigrant, David G. Yuengling packed up shop and made his way to the United States from Wuerttemberg back in the days of yore. Ok, something like 200+ years ago. Maybe when they started saying Prost!

Needless to say that setting aside prohibition, which left Americans looking to ice cream for fun , Yuengling has been brewing tasty lagers for a long, long time. In fact, almost as long as beer mats have been around.

Back to David … he then hangs his brewing shingle in Pottsville, PA, bunkering down and building the Eagle Brewery on Centre Street. Putting a brewery on Centre Street feels like a no-brainer in the days before Google & Facebook. Eventually his son joins the biz and a change in branding ensues. Thus, D.G. Yuengling & Son is born.

After 191 years in business, Yuengling will finally be available in the Lone Star state. The venerable Pennsylvania-based brewery announced the distribution of its core lineup across Texas beginning in fall 2021. The expansion into Texas is the first step in a larger move into the western United States by Yuengling, the oldest brewery in the United States. Founded in 1829 by German immigrant David Yuengling in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Yuengling is one of the most beloved and widely available beer brands throughout the Northeast and South. The Brewers Association has listed Yuengling as the largest craft brewery by sales volume in the United States since 2015, putting it ahead of more widely distributed brands like The Boston Beer Company and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, as well as Texas brewers like Gambrinus , CANarchy , and Saint Arnold Brewing Company.

In addition to expanding their distribution footprint into Texas, Yuengling will also have their products brewed and packaged in Fort Worth as part of a larger partnership with the Chicago-based Molson Coors Beverage Company. Molson Coors is the second-largest brewer overall in the United States, though it has seen its core brands decline in popularity over the past few years. The relationship with Yuengling gives Molson Coors a potent new weapon in the battle for shelf and keg space with rivals like Anheuser-Busch and Constellation Brands as well as Texas breweries.

The Basic Question Is What Ingredients Craft Beer Should Contain

The Brewers Association used to require breweries to use only barley for their flagship beer and for most of their products. This restriction originated in the 15th century, in present-day Germany, where the Reinheitsgebot, or “purity law,” defined beer as made from only hops, barley, and water.

Big brewing companies often use rice, maize, or corn to produce lighter, cheaper beer. In 2011, the Brewers Association called out Yuengling, as well as other American breweries, for not being a true craft brewery because it uses those ingredients, known as adjuncts.

But some small American breweries took offense, arguing that they’ve been using adjunct ingredients for generations and that the practice began because American barley had higher protein content than European barley. Beers brewed with American barley needed adjuncts to produce lighter, shelf-stable beers.

“Why are we being punished for brewing with a locally grown ingredient, which started out of necessity, and has continued out of tradition?” wrote August Schell, a Minnesota brewery founded in 1860, in a letter to the brewers’ group.

A Refreshing Change Of Pace For Yuengling

The new beer can’t compare to anything that the brand has released before. According to the statement, Yuengling’s other beers stick to tried and true formulas that crowds have loved for centuries standards like their signature lager, Black & Tan brew, and light beer sum up their range of beverages. This new mango-flavored beer livens up their current selection, joining their Hershey’s chocolate porter as the two sole beverages featuring a food-specific flavor infusion. With the inclusion of Raging Eagle Mango Beer, we might see Yuengling enter a whole new era in 2021.
