Victor J. Bergeron created the original Mai Tai, according to WikiPedia. Donn Beach, also known as Don the Beachcomber also claims recognition for this rum drink. Victor made the Mai Tai for his Trader Vics Restaurant in Los Angeles way back in 1944 and won the title for the originator.
This original Mai Tai recipe is a strongly flavored rum drink. Now a days the Fruity alcoholic drink version is what we see on cruise ships today.
You may have to request the Trader Vics mai Tai at a bar or restaurant. Nowadays Mai Tais often taste more sweet with coconut and pineapple flavor than this original Mai Tai with dark and aged rums.

For a sweeter Malibu drink, use more grenadine. For a less sweet beverage, use less. Or use some unsweetened cranberry juice and add a splash of that to brighten up the flavor of this rum mixed drink without adding any sweetness.

How To Make A Coconut Rum Hurricane
Make this drink straight in the glass or use a cocktail shaker if you want to combine the flavors before pouring.
For a layered look, we’ll add our ingredients straight to the glass.
First, fill a hurricane glass with ice cubes.
Pour in the coconut rum & triple sec and top it off with pineapple juice.
Using a cocktail spoon, give it a little stir.
Finally, add the grenadine by slowly pouring it onto the side of the glass. This will keep it from blending too much.

What Is The Best Coconut Rum
One of the most commonly known coconut rums out there is Malibu rum, which is certainly a good one. This cocktail was made with toasted coconut rum made by Kula. It has a little more depth of flavor, in my opinion, and is perfect for this cocktail that is served on the rocks.
I have not tried all of the available coconut rums yet, but I can confidently say the Kula toasted coconut rum is a top choice for a delicious cocktail or straight on the rocks.
Rum & Coconut Iced Coffee
One Grande Carmel Frappuccino, hold the whip please. Im no coffee drinker. That foo foo frappuccino is about as close as I come to coffee drinks.
But the Rum & Coconut Iced Coffee is a new best friend. Even the name has a smooth and delicious sound. Hold on to your flip flops because it tastes even better than it sounds.
The recipe consists of coffee, coconut sugar, rum, coconut milk, with optional coconut cream and toasted coconut shavings. I told you this was going to be good! For the rum, Papas Pilar dark works well. Its smooth rich flavor compliments the coconut milk and coffee perfectly.
Ingredients:
- 2 Tablespoons toasted coconut
- Whipped coconut cream
Mixing Instructions: Brew coffee and stir in sugar as needed. Set it aside to cool slightly. Fill a large glass with ice and add rum. Add the coffee and the coconut milk or non-dairy beverage. Top with whipped coconut cream if desired and then sprinkle with toasted coconut. Raise glass and toast.

How To Make Mimosas
I usually fill my champagne flute about two-thirds full with champagne and top off with about one-third of the mango nectar. I like to garnish my mango mimosa cocktail with a strawberry slice and a mango slice, just because.
You can also make pitcher mimosas if youre serving them for a brunch event or party. Just use the same bubbly to mango nectar ratio. Cheers!

Ingredients Needed To Make A Toasted Coconut Rum Cocktail
Rum: To make a Toasted Coconut Rum Cocktail, you are going to need some toasted coconut rum. I used one made by Kula, which is from Hawaii but is becoming easier to find in liquor stores all over.
There are also other toasted coconut rum options to choose from including Hard Truth, Siesta Key, and Blackheart to name a few. If you cant find toasted coconut rum, you can use coconut rum or your favorite rum.
Fruit Juice: You will also need pineapple juice and lime juice for this cocktail. The pineapple juice can be fresh or from a can, but the lime juice should be freshly squeezed for the best-tasting cocktail.
Coconut Milk: For extra coconut flavor and a touch of creaminess, you will need full-fat coconut milk. Yes, you can use the low-fat version, but again, if you want the best taste and texture possible, opt for the full-fat version.
If you prefer a lighter or less creamy cocktail, you can substitute coconut water for coconut milk.
Sweetener: For sweetness, I used agave syrup which has a deeper, more organic flavor. If you dont have agave syrup, you can use simple syrup instead.
Garnish: To complete this cocktail, a toasted coconut garnish on the rim of the glass is the perfect finishing touch. Place a small amount of agave syrup around the edge of the glass and then dip it in toasted coconut.
Mixed Fruit Smoothie With Banana And Pineapple
Make a puree of 2 ripe bananas and 1 cup crushed pineapple. Now, add 3 oz Malibu, 1 cup canned coconut cream, juice of half a lime and crushed ice and blend until smooth. Transfer into a pitcher and freeze for 15 minutes. Pour into glasses and garnish with mint and pineapple or lime slices.
If you want this tropical drink without pineapple or banana, you can always choose from mango, raspberry, cranberry, etc. Either way, addition of fruit pulp makes this drink healthy.

How To Make Coconut Rum Cocktail
Make this delicious cocktail in a jug, or just mix it together in a glass!
Heres the basic rule of thumb: Equal parts of orange juice and pineapple juice, and coconut rum to taste seal the deal. You usually need less coconut rum than you do orange juice/pineapple juice.
If you are making it in a jug, I usually do 4 cups of pineapple juice and orange juice each, add about 1-1 1/2 cups of coconut , then add ice.
If you are making it in a glass, add 1/2 cup of pineapple juice and orange juice each, then add a splash of coconut rum.
Mix it all up, kick back, relax, and sip on this lovely drink and pretend you are on the beach.
I also highly recommend cutting up slices of oranges and pineapple, adding it to the rim of the glass, or throw it into the cocktail itself.
I love biting into the juicy pieces of pineapples and oranges as I sip on this Cocktail Rum Cocktail.

You can use Malibu OR a flavored vodka such as pineapple, peach, strawberry, raspberry, whatever you love. Ive made it with both Malibu and strawberry vodka and they were both great. Use what you have on hand.
This recipe makes one grenadine cocktail, but you can easily scale up the ingredients list to make more than one serving.
I recommend enjoying the cocktail immediately since itll begin to melt as soon as its poured.
