What Is The Difference Between Gold Silver And Reposado Tequila

Silver is the distilled liquor that has not aged at all and is not meant to be consumed by others. Reposado is typically aged in oak barrels for two to eleven months. Reposado tequilas become slightly brown or gold when the wood is extracted naturally. If you suspect that Gold tequilas are aged artificially, you should avoid them.

There are many types of tequila available, but gold tequila is a fantastic choice if you want something smooth and mellow. Because of the smooth taste of this tequila, it is a good choice for margaritas. A shot of gold tequila can be used to add depth to a cocktail, as well as a mellow, complex flavor due to its long aging process. If you want to try something new, a gold tequila is a great choice.

What Is A Good Sipping Tequila

What is a good sipping tequila under a $100? Clear, smooth and on the rocks. Went to Total Wine and they had a huge selection and am looking for advice.

Total Wine usually has El Tesoro products. Very good tequila under $100. They also sometimes carry ArteNOM products which are fairly well regarded. Fuenteseca may be close to $100 depending on where you are. Beware – the employees at Total Wine will steer you towards garbage.

Last time, kid recommended some garbage brand because we tasted it really sweet so its good. And its from Mexico, and thats where we get the best tequila

I just nodded. Didnt know where to start or end with that one.

Why do you think that is? The steering towards garbage.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,

Totally agree with the bad advice from TW employees.

I’m a big fan of ocho Blanco at the moment.

It’s likely subjective though.

What he said. Under $100 ocho blanco, el Tesoro blanco, Mijenta, and or ArteNOM

I am a big fan of Tequila Ocho Blanco. Also recommend G4 Madera Blanco if you can still find it.

I’ve only been drinking El Tesoro since I started down this tequila rabbit hole six months ago here on Reddit. I overpaid for a $65 + tax bottle of Anejo that I thoroughly enjoyed. Since then, I found a few Single Barrel Repos at Costco and then recently located the Blanco and Reposado for decent prices . I drink mine neat. I actually prefer them in this ranking:

Blanco > Single Barrel Reposado > Reposado > Anejo

How Is It Different From Mezcal

Essentially, all tequila is mezcal, but not all mezcal is tequila. Mezcal is a general category for all agave-based distillates. Tequila is mezcal that must be produced using the blue agave plant within the Mexican state of Jalisco and four of its neighboring states. Beyond the legal definition, reposado tequila is not produced, as is mezcal, by pit-roasting the agave. Therefore, it does not have mezcals signature smokiness.

The color can be found in two places. This could have resulted in a brownish-red or gold-red tequila aged in barrels, or it could have resulted in caramel or coloring being added to the tequila to achieve the desired color. Furthermore, caramel or other additives add smoothness to the tequila, making it ideal for shots.

Are All Tequilas Made Of 100 Percent Blue Weber Agave

Nearly all premium tequilas are made entirely from blue Weber agave , but there’s another category of tequila called “mixto” in which blue Weber agave need only compose 51 percent of the spirit. Producers utilize various types of sugar to make up the remaining percentage, including high fructose corn syrup and molassesalthough sometimes a lightly processed Mexican cane sugar known as piloncillo is what’s used. If your bottle doesn’t indicate on the label that it’s made from 100 percent agaveand if the price is on the lower end of the spectrumthere’s a good chance that you’re dealing with a mixto. While less expensive, these tequilas don’t reflect a historically anthentic approach to the composition of the spirit.

Corazon Expresiones Elmer T. Lee Reposado. This limited-release tequila normally presents itself as an añejo. Last year, Corazon released a surprise reposado aged in Elmer T. Lee Barrels. Every spirit has its “moment”sometimes more than onceand just like whiskey in the pre-prohibition era, rum in the midcentury tiki craze, and vodka in the swingin’ sixties and seventies, tequila is currently the darling of the spirits world. Nutrition consultants saddle it with various health claims , and it seems like every day that yet another celebrity is launching a new tequila brand. However, to longtime aficionados like Grover and Scarlet Sanschagrin, the Jalisco-based founders of the website Tequila Matchmaker, there’s something to be said for the old, artisan production methods and for the flavors they yield: herbs, spices, and the briny, bittersweet signature of agave.

Our top pick is cult favorite Fuenteseca Cosecha 2018 based on its ripe agave base, artisanal production methods, and rich concentration of flavors.

But the sheer volume of tequila brands currently competing for shelf space means that there’s truly a bottle out there for every consumer. The Consejo Regulador del Tequila, the spirits regulatory body, lists 1,754 tequilas currently in productionand these include bottles labeled blanco , reposado , añejo , and several other increasingly esoteric categories.
