Theres a reason bar industry experts gravitate towards reposado tequila. Meaning rested, reposado sits for at least two months, but generally less than a year, in the barrel. Most oftentimes, theyre American oak casks that once held whiskey. Its like the VSOP of tequila, aged but not too aged, with some wood but not overly decadent, says Ivy Mix, owner of New Yorks Leyenda and author of Spirits of Latin America. She quotes Carlos Camarena, master distiller of Jalisco La Alteña distillery, where Tequila Ocho is made: He says aging is supposed to be like a picture frame, and in this case, the picture is of agave. You dont want the frame to overtake the picture but to bring out best attributes and highlight them.

Add Lime To Step It Up
As you may already know: tequila and lime are soulmates. But even more importantly: citrus is key in a cola cocktail. The sweetness of the cola absolutely begs for the acidity of lime. You can add lime in 2 ways in this drink:
- Add ½ ounce or 1 tablespoon lime juice. This gives it a more forward lime flavor. You can even up the lime up to ¾ ounce .
- Squeeze in the juice from a lime wedge. You can also just use your cocktail garnish for the lime juice. The amount from 1 wedge is about 1 teaspoon, so the lime is more of a compliment flavor here.

Tequila + Grapefruit Soda

Essentially a Paloma, this cocktail is one of the most popular ways to drink tequila in Mexico . Its bright, citrusy, subtly bitter and downright crushable. Depending on your preference, you can use a blanco or a reposado tequila for the base of the cocktail. A blanco tequila keeps the drink light and crisp, while a reposado tequila makes it richer and more decadent. For a garnish, we recommend a fat wedge of lime and a pinch of sea salt. Come summer, this Highball is essential drinking.

My Favorite Tequila For Simple Tequila Drinks
Im assuming that at least some of you are curious which tequila I think makes the best drink, though. So I will tell you that I tend to stick to one type of tequila for this easy paloma recipe with Squirt a white tequila, also known as silver tequila or blanco tequila, as opposed to a gold tequila.
Specifically, my personal favorite tequila brand is 1800 Silver tequila, which is clean, balanced, and has a smooth finish. AND its an affordable bottle of tequila. Expensive tequila is decidedly NOT a requirement in my palomas. 1800 Silver is always my first choice when making these easy tequila drinks
Although, if Im looking to do a tequila shot, I gotta say Im a Patron girl all the way Chilled with a twist of lime, please!
Anyhow, if youre looking for drinks to make with tequila, this is my favorite paloma drink recipe in its simplest form. I totally think you will love this drink idea, too Give this classic drink a try for Cinco de Mayo, happy hour, or no special reason at all!!
Easy Tequila And Squirt Palomas Drink
Surprisingly, he also went on to tell me about how palomas are actually THE most popular mixed drinks with tequila in Mexico. Wait, WHAT?!? I would have surely guessed the most popular cocktails would be margaritas Wouldnt you?
Its true, though!! But you probably wont find a classic Mexican paloma listed on a bar menu in Mexico. Instead theyre more likely to be found at relaxed social gatherings, where bottles of tequila and Squirt soda are scattered on tables for self-service tequila cocktails. #mykindofparty
Which is why this easy tequila cocktail has totally become my favorite drink to serve when entertaining guests.
And with good reason! I mean, as tequila mixed drinks go, this basic paloma cocktail recipe has got EVERYTHING going for it: its easy to make, inexpensive , and guests LOVE it.
As you know, Im ALL about keeping it simple when entertaining. I mean, I enjoy attending fancy and elegant gatherings, but I dont really enjoy hosting them. For me, simple just means more FUN!
One of the best things about this easy cocktail recipe is that I can actually spend time hanging out with my guests, instead of dashing around the kitchen like a mad woman pouring drinks all night.

Which Type Of Tequila Should I Use For Mixed Drinks
This is a matter of preference, and Ill never tell someone to change something up if they like it, but know that you dont really need to go with a high end tequila if you are mixing it with anything. The juice or mixer will take away from the natural flavor of the tequila, so I like to choose something affordable like the Costco tequila brand. Definitely dont go with something thats a top shelf, expensive tequila meant for sipping. You may want to try a Cristalino tequila if you want that aged tequila taste but need that clear tequila to make your color profile stand out.
Top 14 Tequila Mixers That Are Easy And Taste Fantastic
May 5, 2020
Tequila can be a little confusing for beginners. The alcohol has a distinctive flavor that combines well with some mixers and poorly with others. So, in this post, were looking at the top tequila mixers to give you the chance to easily enjoy tequila at home.
Some of these mixers are common choices that youll see used with many other spirits too, like whiskey, rum, or vodka. These mixers can be particularly good choices for your cupboard, as youll use them over and over again.

Its true that purists often claim that tequila should be only be consumed straight. How To Drink It
This actually seems to be the biggest mystery among the uninitiated nobody seems to know how to drink tequila outside of margaritas and shots.
You can apply most of the same rules to tequila that you would to whiskey or scotch. If drinking something good, an aficionado will drink 3-5oz. out of a snifter served at room temperature, or on the rocks. Thats it. Theres no need to shake the glass or sniff it, the aromas will become more prevalent as you are drinking. One drink should last you most of the night .
Remember, the good stuff is to be enjoyed, not pounded. If the flavor is too intense for you, salt about an inch of your glass and have a slice of lime on hand as a quick chaser. A good tequila should have a warm kick to it, and it should start in your chest
When taking a shot, always remember to raise your glass before drinking if you are with company. Its not required that a full, heavy hearted toast be delivered upon every shot, but its generally considered a courtesy to give your fine drink and even finer company the nod. If everyone is taking a shot , then a good customary toast is, in unison, Parriba! Pabajo! Pal Centro! Y Pa Dentro! . Once again, if the flavor is too intense salt, shot, lime.
If you want something different , make yourself Sangrita by combining orange juice, tomato juice, and cayenne powder. Take this sweet/spicy mixture in alternating shots with your tequila of choice, no salt or lime needed.
The Different Types Of Alcohol You Can Mix With Tequila
When it comes to alcohol, there are a few different types that can be mixed with tequila. The most popular type of alcohol to mix with tequila is beer. This is because the two have similar flavors and they mix well together. Other types of alcohol that can be mixed with tequila include vodka, rum, and whiskey. Each of these alcohols has a different flavor, so it is important to experiment and find the right mix for you.
All of these mixers are easy to make and work well with tequila. This recipe makes one of Mexicos most popular ways to drink tequila: tequila and grapefruit soda. A cocktail that combines pineapple juice, tequila, and grass, botanical, tropical, and peppery ingredients is created. You can make an Old Fashioned tequila without bitters by combining the two ingredients. If you do use fresh orange juice, make sure to infuse it with air at all times. To make the Manhattan a little more flavorful, combine sweet vermouth with a reposado or aejo of sweet vermouth. A vegetal riff on a Martini could be made with either bone dry vermouth or semi-sweet tequila.
Its not always obvious whether you want a tequila cocktail or a white wine. This wine cocktail is ideal for combining two items. If you enjoy a pitcher cocktail with fresh citrus flavors, Sauvignon Blanc, and your favorite tequila, youll enjoy this pitcher cocktail as much as your friends.
