Where Does The Mojito Originate From

Mojitos originate from Cuba. While the actual origin story has been debated throughout history, this Cuban highball drink is said to be one of the islands oldest cocktails. It has experienced resurgences in popularity throughout history thanks to appearances in mainstream culture such as the James Bond film Die Another Day.

    Do You Shake A Mojito

I do understand this question. As a general rule, citrusy drinks should be shaken. However, a classic mojito is just stirred. A cocktail with club soda shouldnt be shaken, although you could shake the drink before adding the club soda. But stirring is just even easier right no need to clean a shaker!

    Pitcher of Mojitos

If you are serving a crowd, want to take it along on a picnic, or just want enough for the whole table, try making your mojito as a pitcher cocktail. These instructions can be adapted to however many you need to make, but my recommendation for a 32 ounce pitcher is to multiply the ingredients by five.

    • In your cocktail shaker muddle the lime juice, sugar, and mint leaves, then add to the pitcher.
    • In the now empty cocktail shaker, muddle your raspberries to break them up, then add to the pitcher. If using frozen berries, allow them to thaw first.
    • Use the rum to rinse the cocktail shaker and add it to the pitcher.
    • Add the club soda and ice cubes to the pitcher, then stir to combine completely.
    • Fill each glass with a few extra ice cubes, then top off with raspberry mojito mixture.
    • If desired, serve with extra fresh berries, lime rounds, or mint sprigs for garnish. I like to add extra sliced lime rounds into the pitcher because I think it looks pretty.

Juice your limes. I typically do this over a liquid measuring cup with a fine mesh strainer on top of it to keep pulp and seeds out of the final juice.

Pro tip: Youll get more juice from your limes if theyre room temperature. If you keep em in the fridge, pop them into the microwave for 20-30 seconds to get those juices flowing!

Next, get all your mint leaves ready. You need a lot and it is a hassle but skimping on the mint is going to mean for a less flavorful mojito, which is unacceptable. Make sure to rinse the mint leaves off, as well pat them dry with a kitchen towel.

Add the mint leaves to the bottom of a pitcher. Bruise the mint leaves using a muddler or a wooden spoon so they can release their natural oils.

Pour the white rum, lime juice and simple syrup into the pitcher. Stir until combined.

Top the pitcher off with the club soda, and serve immediately, pouring the pitcher mojitos over ice in individual glasses and garnishing with lime wedges and extra mint sprigs.

How Did I Learn To Make The Best Mojitos

My easy technique comes from a bartender I met when we were on vacation in the Caribbean. He showed me that they prep a mojito simple syrup with mint and lime which ups the flavor in mojitos. You still muddle together some fresh mint and lime the old fashioned way, but adding in that mojito simple syrup elevates the flavor to a new level!

How To Make A Pitcher of Mojitos Your Guests Will LOVE!

A mojito is perfect to make as a pitcher drink. It is also fairly light, about the same alcoholic content as a glass of wine. So a glass or two or three is totally acceptable . Invite all your friends and enjoy this pitcher mojito and a watermelon salad!

It is actually literally the same method as in a glass, only that its larger quantities of ingredients. Add lime juice, sugar and mint into a pitcher and muddle to release the juices and blend the flavors. I like to add in the squeezed limes as well. Add in ice and white rum and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Top with club soda. Perfect for about 6 glasses!

Garnish with more lime wedges and fresh mint both in the glasses and in the pitcher. Enjoy!

    Mango Margarita Recipe Tips

    • Thawing is your friend. When you first blend the margarita together, it will be thick, almost like a sorbet. If at any point you find that it is too thick to blend, dont worry about it! Just walk away for a few minutes to allow the mango to defrost, and then come back and try again. The mixture will blend more easily as it thaws, and even if you let it sit for a bit, itll still be nice and frosty.
    • Taste and adjust. The secret to making a killer cocktail at home? Adjusting it to taste! If you prefer a stronger mango margarita, add a splash more tequila. If you want it brighter, squeeze in extra lime. Craving something sweeter? Add a drop of agave or simple syrup. Tweak the ratios until your margarita has a balance of flavors you love.
    • Salt the rim of your glass. This frozen mango margarita tastes amazing straight out of the blender, so technically, you dont have to salt your glass here. Still, I highly recommend it. The salt perfectly accents the sweet, vibrant flavor of the mango and lime, and it gives your glass that classic margarita look.

Muddle: Were making a mint mojito pitcher recipe, so this will be enough to fill a pitcher. This recipe should serve 8, unless you like bigger portions.

Youll start by adding plenty of fresh mint leaves to a pitcher along with some sugar and lime wedges. Muddle them together.

Muddling just means crushing the leaves of the mint with the sugar and fruit. Heres a great cocktail muddler! Do this just until you smell the mint. Dont over muddle your mint or things will start to taste funky.

Mojito Mix: Finally you can pour the club soda and your preferred brand of white rum right into the pitcher. Give it a quick stir and serve these mojitos over plenty of ice and garnish with a sprig of mint, if desired.

A nice refreshing mojito drink is best enjoyed out by the pool or on the beach!

Mango mojitos by the pitcher : Place the lime wedges and mint leaves in a large pitcher. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to gently mash the limes and mint to release the lime juice and the mint aroma. Add the mango purée, the cooled simple syrup, and the rum to the pitcher stir to combine.

    Sugar Or Simple Syrup

Both sugar and simple syrup are here to add sweetness to our mojito, but when it comes to muddled cocktails I prefer using sugar. The sugar granules dissolve quickly and easily in the lime juice, especially if your limes are already at room temperature. Basically, it saves you an unnecessary step.

If you really want to use simple syrup, I highly recommend you use a mint simple syrup instead of a basic simple syrup, which I cover in my Mint Julep Bar post.

Ingredients To Make The Best Classic Mojito

Whats in a mojito is just a few basic ingredients:

    • Ice, preferably crushed

Because this cocktail has so few ingredients, its important that the ingredients are of high quality. Hello freshly squeezed lime juice! You can use any kind of sparkling water or soda you like, I sometimes even use a citrus flavored soda like Sprite. It comes down to your own preference but something fizzy!

To make a ginger mojito: Use ginger beer instead of soda water, and muddle a little fresh ginger along with the mint and sugar!

    Notes On The Ingredients

Due to its simplicity, it calls for good quality ingredients. And thats exactly one of the key points that can make a really good cocktail.

Mojitos, unlike other cocktails, do not have any crazy or difficult-to-get ingredients. .

Rum The traditional recipe calls for white rum, and in my opinion, it works best. It has a light flavor without any strong spices added to it, unlike golden rums. However, feel free to use it if thats what you prefer.

Fresh lime juice Although bottle lime juice is more convenient, the flavor is just not the same. Please avoid using it and buy a bunch of fresh limes from the farmers market.

Fresh mint You can use mint or spearmint. Just make sure it is fresh.

Sugar Traditionally mojitos had sugar cane juice in them. But since is not that easy to find, you can use regular white sugar. You can also use brown sugar.

Sparkling component My recommendation is to use club soda, which is unsweetened, so it will not add any more sugar to the final cocktail. Also, you can use lime soda if you want to, but I prefer to use club soda. Avoid using tonic soda .

Ice Youll need some big ice cubes for the pitcher, and also crashed ice or smaller cocktail ice cubes for each glass.

The Easiest Way To Make Simple Syrup

Making simple syrup is just as easy as its title implies, but if you aren’t someone who keeps a lot of it on-hand, then it’s best for you to make a very small batch so that none of it goes to waste. This tiny batch of simple syrup will work perfectly for these Mojito recipes, and if you’re feeling adventurous and want to try flavoring your simple syrup, you can follow this helpful guide.

    Helpful Tips And Tricks

    Mojito Recipe Simple Syrup Pitcher
    • Use fresh limes not the concentrated stuff.
    • Quality counts. With only five ingredients, each one is super important. Just like the lime juice, you want to be sure to use a quality rum that you actually like the taste of. Some favorites include Bacardi Superior or Cana Brava.
    • Avoid over-muddling. Gently, yet firmly, press the limes and mint with your muddler and gently twist. Were not trying to rip the mint to shreds, that just makes your mojito bitter.
    • Add some fruit for a fun twist.
