Definitely had some Margarita on the Rocks here. The margaritas were delicious. Unsure if they were just a bit more busy than normal for a weekday afternoon, but we didn’t get greeted for tableside service. Some tables were greeted, some weren’t during the last afternoon Ordered from the bar and paid $26 for 2 margaritas and a Corona… I guess that’s Put-in-Bay pricing. Overall 4-star service.
Chocolate Museum And Cafe
Get your taste buds ready! Perhaps one of the most delicious things to do in Put-in-Bay is check out this chocolaty spot.
First, head on into the museum to see a bit about the history of chocolate. It reminds me of my time in San Ignacio, Belize, where I learned to make chocolate like the ancient Mayans.
Anyhow, inside the museum youll find vintage artifacts detailing the history of chocolate. Then, enjoy the deliciousness that is the Chocolate Cafe. From fudge to truffles, spicy Mexican hot chocolate and chocolate sold by the pound.

Alright this one was so impressive I had to give the Butterfly House at Perrys Cave Family Fun Center its own number on this list of things to do in Put-in-Bay. The Butterfly House is is a 4,000 square foot aviary where you can walk through and see hundreds of butterflies!
On site at Perrys Cave Family Fun Center, this butterfly house is for nature lovers of all ages. Youll see varieties of Swallowtails from Africa and Asia, vivid blue butterflies from South America and my favorite the Great Eggfly from Australia

Scheefs East Point Preserve
If youre looking for a hike on Put-in-Bay, this is the spot to do it! Hike through the woods and follow a loop around the northern tip of the island. Its about .4 miles with several access points for the water and great views of the shoreline. More trail details here.
From the Scheeff East Point Nature Preserve, on a clear day you can see Middle Bass Island and Ballast Island.
Pro tip: watch for Poison Ivy while on the trails at Put-in-Bay. Leaves of 3, let it be!

Rent A Golf Cart And Poke Around The Island
Alright I gotta be honest: I love a casual vacation where the main mode of transportation is a golf cart. It just adds an element of fun, you know?
Anyway, Put-in-Bay is the perfect spot for carting the island, with many parking spots made specifically for golf carts. Plus the traffic goes golf cart pace most of the time since its so common!

South Bass Island State Park
Nature enthusiasts will love visiting the South Bass Island State Park, another one of the fun things to do in Put-in-Bay. For a truly off-the-grid vacation, you could choose South Bass Island camping at the state park.
The campgrounds are nestled on the edge of the cliff for the best views of Lake Erie! It has easy access to the beach for swimming and the fishing pier too. South Bass Island State Park also has these cool hybrid camping option called cabents which includes a kitchen, bathroom and shower.
Camping is allowed from May through mid-October. With limited space, be sure to make your reservation in advance.
Right next to the park entrance is a playground for young kids and volleyball courts for any age. And of course, this is where the best kayaking and Put in Bay beach is on the island.
The rocky shoreline also creates an ideal swimming spot. Just be sure to use water shoes as the rocks can be slick! These are the water shoes I used at Put-in-Bay (and theyve traveled all over the world with me, like the mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado plus beachy getaways like Anna Maria Island, Florida and Aruba. How Strong Is A Margarita
Using the original recipe and an 80-proof tequila along with Cointreau, the margarita is definitely not a low-proof cocktail. It shakes up to around 27 percent ABV , or just over half the strength of a tequila shot. If you serve it on the rocks, it will dilute and relax a bit over time.

Derivera Park Downtown Put In Bay
In the heart of downtown Put in Bay is the DeRivera Park. Its a beautiful green space surrounded by the lively downtown restaurants, bars and shops on one side and the marina on the other.
Walk this area while youre enjoying downtown and see the beautiful stone and cement wishing fountain and the gazebo . The playground is perfect for young kids and if youre staying on Put-in-Bay, you might even consider using the BBQ pits and having a picnic in the park.
Another cool sight at the park is a plaque with service members from the war of 1812 and a cannonball memorial.

Pib Has Several Major Events Planned In 2022
After a bounceback 2021 season, Put-in-Bay looks to keep the momentum going this summer.
The village of 600 full-time residents attracts roughly 750,000 visitors in a typical summer season.
Jessica Dress, Put-in-Bay’s mayor, said the business community started to see a recovery in 2021 after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted and there weren’t many rainy weekends that kept tourists away.
A Put-in-Bay branding campaign that targeted families, empty nesters and weekday visitors during less busy days also helped some island businesses in a rebound year.
“We actually had businesses that were setting record sales,” Dress said.
The 2022 spring shoulder season has produced a similar business surge, with Dress describing the past two weekends as “feeling like June.”
Dress said on a typically busy Saturday during the summer, Put-in-Bay can expect about 10,000 visitors.
The front outdoor seating area at Hooligans Irish Pub filled up quickly May 21, as customers shrugged off the possibility of a late afternoon thunderstorm and enjoyed temperatures in the low to mid-80s.
Megan Beckwith, Hooligans’ manager, said the up to 700 people visit the pub on a busy Friday or Saturday.
Beckwith said the typical Put-in-Bay summer season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with Hooligans staying open through Oct. 31.
“In comparison to last year, I can tell it’s going to be a great season,” Beckwith said.

A classic margarita has just a few simple ingredients: tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice. With so few components, and no sugary, faux-fruit sweeteners, it’s best to start with high-quality booze and real honest-to-goodness limes.
As for the alcohol, I like this tequila, which was featured on our holiday gift guide, but any blanco or reposado tequila will work. Choose blanco if you like a crisp-tasting margaritait’s the least aged tequila, has a clear appearance, and generally has a vegetal taste and aroma. If you like a margarita with a little more complexity, go for reposado, which has been aged in oak from 2 months to 1 year and has a smoother taste and golden color. You may also see joven tequila, a blend of blanco and reposado, which is also a great margarita base, as well as añejo and extra-añejo . Those last two are considered sipping tequilas, and not something you would typically use for a mixed drink .
Finally, there’s the mezcal margarita. Mezcal is essentially tequila that’s undergone a smoking process during production and makes for a margarita that pairs exceptionally well with a grilled Mexican feast.
