Italian Margarita How To Drink

What Is Amaretto Liqueur

How to Make the Perfect Italian Margarita : Margarita Recipes

Amaretto is an Italian almond-flavored liqueur thats infused with a bit of vanilla and lovely burnt sugar flavors. It has a burnt-orange hue and is bittersweet.

Amaretto is thought to have originated in the Italian town, Saronno . It was originally named Amaretto di Saronno, or Amaretto from Saronno. Today there are many brands of amaretto made in a variety of locations however family-owned DiSaronno remains the best-selling brand .

Its used in a variety of classic cocktails including the Amaretto Sour, Bird of Paradise, and Mai Tai. Amaretto can be found in most liquor stores next to other Italian Liqueurs.

What Is An Italian Margarita

Italian Margaritas were made famous by Olive Garden, where theyre a popular cocktail on the menu. They are similar to your classic margarita with one main difference. Instead of orange liqueur like Triple Sec, an Italian Margarita is made with Amaretto, an almond liqueur.

In some cases, the amaretto is served on the side in a shot glass for you to pour in but in other cases, like this recipe, its already mixed into the drink.

There are some variations on this recipe, such as an Italian Limoncello Margarita, where the amaretto is replaced with limoncello or other Italian liqueurs.

Jose Cuervo Especial Silver

Tequila is made from the blue agave plant and is one of the worlds most popular liquors. At the heart and soul of a good Margarita, it is always nice to use the best quality tequila you can find. There are five different categories. Blanco tequila is the purest form because it doesnt undergo any aging in oak barrels, and therefore has the mildest taste. Most bartenders prefer to use this category of tequila in the Margarita they make.

Jose Cuervo Especial Silver, often called Jose Cuervo Blanco, is a popular choice for tequilas because it is moderately priced and widely available. But you may use any Blanco tequila you have at home without affecting the cocktails taste very much.

How To Make Italian Margaritas

Before you get to whipping up this Italian Margarita Recipe, you’ll first have to decide if you want a salted rim or a sugar-rimmed glass.

If you’d like a salt rim, add cup of kosher salt to a small plate and give it a little shimmy. If you’d like a sugar rim, add cup of granulated sugar to a small plate just the same.

Want to make that sugar rim extra special? Grate about one teaspoon of orange zest over the sugar and rub it in with your fingers.

Now, you’ll take a lime wedge with a slit cut into the center, and run it along the rim of your margarita glass. Once the rim is wet, you can turn the glass upside down and gently swirl it around in either the salt or sugar. If desired, use your fingers to gently press the salt or sugar up against the sides.

Time to get mixing! The cocktail shaker isn’t necessary unless you want your marg extremely chilled before it hits the ice in your glass. If you are just dying to use that shaker, you’ll combine all of your Italian margarita ingredients in a shaker filled with ice, pop on the lid, and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.

However, when it comes to whipping up Italian margaritas at home, we typically take the easy way out: all you really need is a measuring pitcher and a spoon. Measure out and combine the tequila, amaretto, fresh lime juice, orange juice, and simple syrup in the measuring pitcher and stir until combined.

Long Italian Limoncello Margarita

Italian Margarita

This recipe is similar to the previous one, but with a couple more ingredients. It is fragrant and refreshing.

It can be served over , of course, but few people have them at home. So feel free to use a plain wine glass or anything with a long stem. If you dont have or like them, lowball glasses are another simple and good-looking solution.

The ingredients are:

  • 1 + 1/2 oz blanco or reposado tequila: reposado is a type of tequila that has aged at least 2 months and up to a year in barrels of steel or oak wood. It is less bright than tequila blanco, but is usually appreciated for its ability to hold and showcase the subtle aromas of the barrel wood. For this attempt, we used a Jose Cuervo Especial Reposado Gold.
  • 1 oz limoncello: as for the recipe above, you can also use amaretto or orange liqueur.
  • 1/3 oz lemon juice + 1/3 oz lime juice
  • 4 oz soda water
  • 2 drops of Angostura: Angostura is a Venezuelan bitter made from the infusion of 6 different aromatic herb plants. Many mixologists use it to enhance the aroma of their cocktails by adding 2 or 3 drops. For this, it is sold both in bottles and in small containers equipped with droppers.
  • salt and lemon zest: this time, youll use both to garnish the rim of the glass
  • lemon or orange slices.

Why Are Margarita Glasses Shaped Like That

Italian Margarita cocktail recipe from andypearsondrinks.com.

Because it looks like an upside-down sombrero!! Just kidding. Truthfully, I dont know but one of the most popular legends is that it came from a restaurant in Los Angeles. After ordering new champagne glasses, these oddly shaped glasses arrived instead. Legend says that one of the bartenders suggested using it for margaritas because it looked larger and would then probably fetch a higher price.

What Makes It Different From A Classic Margarita Cocktail

A traditional margarita is made with tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and a line of salt on the rim of the glass. Occasionally it includes a Sweet & Sour mix. The Italian version, on the other hand, is made by replacing triple sec with about one shot of amaretto liqueur.

Amaretto is a typical almond liqueur from Liguria. It originated 500 years ago in the town of Saronno and is now distributed worldwide.

It is made through the infusion of bitter almonds and herbs in an alcoholic solution. This makes it perfect for home production. In fact, although there are two major producers in the city of Saronno alone , many families make it themselves, often adding apricots to the traditional recipe.

Other variants of the Olive Garden Italian Margherita are made with limoncello, orange liqueur, or even Grand Marnier.

This shouldnt come as a surprise. I think it is fair to say that amaretto is to Ligurian families what limoncello is to southern regions. After all, they are both made by infusing local products and have become an international symbol of their birthplaces.

Plus, they give such a fun twist to the margarita!

As I was reading about the other variants, I remembered that I had actually written a a few years ago.

We tried three different cocktail recipes. In this post, Ill describe them all, and add the recipe card for my favorite one at the end of the post.

    Heres what we did.

Ways To Make Margaritas Without A Blende

Can you use a regular blender in a margaritas? If the blender can handle ice, a special blender is not required for margaritas. Purchasing an appliance that can perform both double duty and one-duty is more cost-effective. Shake the juice of a cocktail . Some drinks, on the other hand, should not be shaken or stirred. It is not necessary to shake or stir a large drink that contains a mixer and other complementary ingredients like Rum Punch or Todd Hots because it is large in volume. Can you make a delicious food processor for your own cocktail? For these margaritas, a food processor is a better option than a blender, but pulse the ice by hand before adding the remaining ingredients to ensure even consistency. We tested a variety of frozen drinks with the Vitamix 7500 and discovered that it is the best. This full-size blender has an extremely well-built design, which is extremely useful if you frequently blend tough ingredients like ice cubes. Despite the fact that it comes with a seven-year U.S. warranty, the price varies depending on where you purchase it.

Tips For Making An Olive Garden Italian Margarita

    • You got to move it, move it. Give your cocktail shaker more than a few shakes. Shaking helps to aerate the drink and bring out the flavors thoroughly. If you are ever confused about whether to shake or stir a cocktail, the rule of thumb is that anything with fresh ingredients like fruit juice or cream needs to go into the shaker.
    • Choose your shaker wisely. There are two types of shakers: Boston and Cobbler. A Boston shaker is better at aerating, but it takes longer to chill. The extra time in the shaker may cause drinks to become more watery. On the other hand, a Cobbler shaker chills cocktails quicker but doesnt incorporate as much air into the cocktails. Most bartenders prefer using a Boston shaker for making Margaritas.

    Easy Italian Margarita Recipe

I must admit it, I had never heard of Italian Margarita until a couple of days ago. I was doing some topic research to find inspiration for the following posts to write, and apparently, lots of people are looking up this drinks recipe.

At first, I was surprised. I mean, I come from a part of Italy where bars barely serve margaritas at all. The people here tend to like other drinks. Who would have thought that there is even a different type of margarita that everyone associates with us, without us knowing it?

Then, I read that this drink was made famous by Olive Garden. We dont have it in Italy, so its not a surprise that we dont know its staples. But now I was curious to know what this drink tasted like.

    How To Upgrade Your Margarita

    Italian Margarita Drink Recipe

There are so many ways you can upgrade your margarita recipe! Try out some of these varieties to shake things up a bit.

    • Spice up your salt rim. I like to add lime zest and a pinch of cayenne to the salt. You can also add a bit of sugar to the mix.

    • Try it with mezcal! A mezcal margarita is a very different experience but just as delightful. Mezcal is an Oaxacan spiritlike tequila, its from the agave plant, but has a smokier profile. It can make a lovely margarita with a complex flavor.

    • Add some fruit for a flavored margarita. This is a classic way to personalize your margarita. I love to add fresh berries in the summer, either muddled into a drink on the rocks or blended in a frozen margarita.

    • Cointreau is a type of triple sec, or orange liqueur, which is a classic choice for margaritas. But there are many types of triple sec out there that would be just as delicious. You can also try other types of orange liqueurs like Grand Marnier or Curacao, which will change the flavor slightly.
