How To Make Margarita At Home

How To Make A Classic Margarita

How to Make a Margarita (Classic and Frozen) – The Basics on QVC

To make this classic margarita youll need tequila, lime juice and orange liqueur . While a classic margarita is quite easy on its own, I wanted to simplify the recipe even further with an easy to remember 2-1-1 ratio.

  • 2 oz of tequila
  • 1 oz of lime juice
  • 1 oz of orange liqueur

Shake or stir these ingredients together and then add ice . Alternatively, you can triple or quadruple the recipe in a blender and add ice to have a frozen margarita as well.

What type of tequila should you use? I used a reposado tequila which is aged in a barrel 2 months to just under a year. Reposado is often considered the perfect tequila for margaritas. Two other types of tequila are joven and añejo. Joven is lighter, aged less than reposado and cheaper. While añejo is darker, aged over a year and is more expensive.

You many also want to include salt on the rim of your margarita. You can purchase a coarser salt online or at the grocery or liquor store. Generously spread the salt on a plate large enough for the rim of the glass. Run a slice of lime around the rim of your glass. Then place the rim in the plate of salt. Pour your classic margarita in a glass and youre all set!

Heres A Video Showing How Easy This Classic Margarita Is:

You see, margaritas are one of those things that are different to different people. Some like them crazy sweet. Others like them really strong. Some want very tart and sour lime. Others, just a citrus whiff. And lets not get started on rocks versus straight up, salt or no salt. Yikes! If I dared to claim that I had the best margarita recipe, a good 75% of you would want to fight with me. But why fight when we can drink?

So, what Im giving you below is my favorite margarita recipe. Its how I make them to my taste. I dont like them super-boozy. I do like them very limey. And I like a touch of sweetness.

Tips For Making The Best Homemade Margaritas

I prefer my margaritas boldly tart but sweet enough to balance the tartness, and Im not shy with the tequila. Youll need to find the exact ratio of ingredients that you enjoy best.

Small changes can have a big effect on taste. Like a half shot glass of lime juice or a small drizzle of agave can really make a difference. Play around with this fresh margarita recipe to find your happy place, pun intended.

You can doctor up the basic mixture as you like by adding other liquors or add a handful of strawberries, put it all in a blender, and youve got a frozen strawberry margarita in seconds.

Its also worth mentioning that you want to look for really juicy limes. In general, paler green limes and those with yellow spots, as well as those with thin skin are juicier than darker-skinned limes or those with thicker skin. Medium/large limes seem to release their juice easier than small limes.

How To Stretch Pizza Dough

  • Working on a floured surface, with floured hands, softly pat down the risen ball of dough into a circle, rotating it as you do.
  • Using the tips of your fingers, push down gently around the perimeter of the pie, rotating it as you do, to create the edge.
  • Pick up the dough and lightly pass it back and forth between your palms, trying to rotate it each time you do, using gravity to help the dough stretch. At about 12 inches in diameter, the pizza is ready to go.
  • Return the pizza to the floured surface, making sure that the side that you first pressed down on remains facing upward, and gently slide the pie back and forth a few times to make sure that it does not stick. Add a little more flour to the surface beneath the pie if it does.
  • Gently slide a lightly floured pizza peel beneath the pie, or place it carefully on a floured cutting board or the back of a baking pan. Make sure again that the dough can slide back and forth. If it does, the pie is certified for topping.
  • Why You May Need Some Alcoholic Drinks

If youre planning a party or gathering, youll need to decide whether to serve alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks. There are a few things to consider when making this decision. First, think about your guests. Are they all adults? Will there be children present? If youre serving alcohol, youll need to ensure that all your guests will be of legal drinking age.

Youll also want to consider the purpose of the event. If its a celebratory occasion, you may want to offer a selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. However, if its a more low-key event, non-alcoholic beverages may be more appropriate. Also, alcohol can be expensive, so serving only non-alcoholic drinks can help to keep your costs down. Here are a few great reasons to serve non-alcoholic beverages at your next gathering.

How To Make A Classic Margherita Pizza At Home

The classic. Get on it. Or add toppings just as they do down at the pie shop in town: cooked crumbled sausage or ground beef pitted black olives sauteed mushrooms, onions, or peppers pepperoni anchovies whatever you like.

    Ingredients

    • 1 round pizza dough
    • 3 tablespoons pizza sauce
    • Extra-virgin olive oil
    • 2 3/4 ounces fresh mozzarella
    • 4 to 5 fresh basil leaves, roughly torn

    Directions

  • Place a pizza stone or tiles on the middle rack of your oven and turn the heat to its highest setting. Let the oven heat for at least an hour.
  • Stretch the dough and use a spoon to apply the sauce to its center. Use the back of the spoon to spread the sauce evenly across the surface, stopping about 1/ inch from the edges.
  • Drizzle a little oil over the pie. Break the cheese into large pieces and place these gently on the sauce. Add other toppings, if using any, to taste. Scatter the basil leaves over the top.
  • Using a pizza peel, pick up the pie and slide it onto the heated stone in the oven. Bake until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling, 4 to 8 minutes.
  • A Note About Measuring

In the recipe section, I referred to the ingredients as shots. Some recipes use ounces, cups, and shots, all in one. Holy confusion after youve had a few.

The very average-sized shot glass I use holds the same amount of liquid as a 1/4-cup measure, which makes it easy to make the recipe in bulk. X parts this to Y parts that.

While you could technically share the recipe as written, after having one, youll want another. So plan on it serving one, nicely. You can sip worry-free since theres no granulated sugar.

They go down so incredibly easy. Especially on vacation.

The daiquiri and margarita are two very popular classic cocktails that have a similar sweet-tart flavor profile. The original recipes for both use lime juice, though the daiquiri has a rum base and is typically sweetened with simple syrup rather than triple sec. Both cocktails can be made with a variety of fruits or tossed in the blender too.

What Is The Best Tequila For Margaritas

You can use whatever tequila you like for margaritas, but I prefer to go with cheaper options rather than the best Tequila. Once its mixed in, having the highest quality Tequila wont matter.

That being said, I also dont pick the cheapest Tequila. Go for a good mid-range Tequila and youll be set. Repasado Tequilas are much smoother than Blanco Tequilas, so I prefer that.

How To Make A Margarita On The Rocks

A margarita on the rocks is the most traditional way to make a margarita cocktail. Making a homemade margarita on the rocks is simple. Basic recipes combine tequila, triple sec, and fresh lime juice to create a tangy, earthy, and slightly sweet drink. Instead of triple sec, some recipes balance out the drink’s tartness with simple syrup or agave syrup, a natural match for agave-based tequila.

While good tequila is important for a delicious margarita on the rocks scroll down to see how to choose the best tequila for a margarita fresh lime juice is just as crucial. Yes, squeezing limes by hand takes time, but the flavor is far superior to bottled lime juice. As for triple sec, it really depends on your budget. Grand Marnier and Cointreau are top quality but not the most economical options. There are many other, less expensive triple secs, including Bol’s Triple Sec, which will also make a lip-smacking margarita.

    Notes On Some Ingredients:

    • Tequila silver or reposado are traditionally used in margaritas. However, you can use any type of tequila that you enjoy.
    • Orange Liquor- either Triple Sec or Cointreau are good options.
    • Lime juice fresh squeezed is the best way to go!
    • Simple syrup or Agave this creates a sweeter margarita. It is optional, you can enjoy a margarita without it, but I much prefer my cocktails to have a bit of sweetness to balance the tart punch of the lime juice.
    • Kosher Salt or Sugar another optional ingredient. Use either to rim your glass.

    A Mason Jar Margarita

The Spruce Eats / Claire Cohen

It has become popular to serve margaritas in a Mason jar with a ton of ice. The original margarita recipe was designed to be served as a short drink, with a volume of just 3 1/2 ounces. As with most classic cocktail recipes, it will barely fill many of today’s larger margarita and cocktail glasses, much less a Mason jar.

If you want to make a Mason jar margarita, you need a recipe designed for the larger volume. This modern version makes a drink that’s just over 6 ounces. With plenty of ice cubes and fresh fruit, it will fill the average Mason jar mug perfectly.

To make this margarita, shake 2 ounces tequila, 1 ounce triple sec, and 3 ounces fresh sour mix with ice. Strain it into an ice-filled Mason jar and add a few lime wedges.

This can also be mixed directly in your Mason jar. At first, cut back on the ice, shake or stir the drink, then fill it with fresh ice cubes.

If you’re a fan of mixing drinks in Mason jars, Shane Carley’s “The Mason Jar Cocktail Companion” is an excellent book. All of the recipes are measured in parts and many of the booze-heavy recipes have been adapted to the higher volume. Carley’s Mason jar margarita, for instance, mixes 3 parts tequila, 2 parts orange liqueur, and 1 part lime juice.
