The Glenlivet 14 Cognac Cask Whisky Review

For this single malt, age is but a number. Despite its 15-year age statement, its floral and citrus-forward aromas give the Scotch a youthful profile. It was 90 degrees this weekend in Boston! The whisky drinking days are slowly disappearing but, fear not, I have a few more posts before that happens.

This little guy I got for free at the liquor store because they couldnt get it to scan. It was an absolute win for me. I always say if you want to try a whisky and they have it in miniature form go for the little one. The last thing you want to do is buy a full bottle of whisky you dont know if youll enjoy.

This 14 Year expression is matured in bourbon and sherry casks before it spends 6 months in high quality ex-cognac casks.

Nose: raisins, cognac, sweet, fruit and honeyPalate: citrus, raisins, chocolate, and pearsFinish: smooth, cognac and raisinsCost: $50-$60 ABV: 40%

Dont let the sweet smell of this whisky fool you. You take a whiff, and you automatically think it will be a sweet whisky, but it is not. What you do get is a creamy, smooth whisky with notes of citrus and raisins in the forefront. You do get slight hints of sweetness, but they dont distract you from the delicious ripe raisins and all the other notes.

This whisky is beautifully made and its perfect for those who are starting their whisky journey. Not only is it a quality product but at this price point for a 14-year whisky, you simply cant go wrong.

Cheers!

Bright copper in the glass, the sweet aromas suggest maple and allspice. The light, drying palate echoes that maple hint alongside grapefruit peel tones, finishing with a flurry of baking spice and mouthwatering lemon peel. A drop of water coaxes a gentle waft of smoke. Overall a delicate, ethereal sipper. Kara Newman
