Easy Strawberry Margarita On The Rocks

How To Make It

Strawberry margaritas {on the rocks or frozen}

Heres an overview of what youll do to make a perfect margarita on the rocks. You can see the steps in action in the video that accompanies this post, and get all the details in the recipe card below.

  • Rim the glass with salt per the instructions above.
  • Juice those limes.
  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour in the tequila, lime juice, Cointreau, and simple syrup or agave. Shake well until very cold.
  • Strain into the prepared glass and garnish with a lime wheel. Thats it!
  • What Is Better In A Margarita Cointreau Or Triple Sec

I prefer Cointreau in a margarita. Cointreau is a orange citrus liqueur, made with sweet and bitter orange citrus rinds. It adds some great richness and mild citrus flavor that pairs perfectly with the lime juice in a margarita.

Triple Sec is also appropriate for a margarita. It is not as strong Cointreau is approximately 40% stronger than Triple Sec.

    Make Homemade Margarita Mix

Homemade margaritas are so easy to make from scratch, so I dont think pre-made margarita mixes are really necessary. However, you can make your own homemade margarita mix to help prep for parties.

  • Combine sugar, orange juice, lime juice, & salt in a saucepan on medium heat.
  • Heat for 5 minutes, until sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently.
  • Let the mixture cool and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • If youre planning to host a party, a mix will make the drink-making process much easier!

    For The Fresh Strawberry Puree

    • Strawberries Fresh strawberries give us the fruity, strawberry flavor in the syrup. Berries that are perfectly sweet and fragrant will give you the most delicious strawberry flavor. See the variations below about frozen strawberries.
    • Water Water provides the liquid base for the simple syrup.
    • Sugar To sweeten the puree.

What Is In A Margarita On The Rocks

This margarita on the rocks is a simple cocktail made with just margarita mix and tequila. It really doesnt get much simpler than that!

We have some other cocktails perfect for summer sipping too, including this Blue Island Drink, my favorite Dirty Shirley Temple, and this Strawberry Peach Sangria with Lemons that is a summer favorite!

Can I Make This Into A Pitcher

This cocktail is easy to make into a pitcher!

You will first need to double the strawberry puree portion, which should give you 2 cups of finished puree. Add the strawberry puree to a pitcher, followed by 1½ cups tequila, ¾ cup lime juice, and ¾ cup orange liqueur. Stir to combine and refrigerate for up to 4 hours prior to serving.

When ready to serve, give the pitcher a good stir. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and pour in 6½ ounces of the margarita mix. Shake 45 seconds to perfectly chill and dilute. Strain the margarita into an ice-filled glass and garnish with a fresh strawberry and sprig of mint. Repeat with remaining margarita mix.

If you want to use glasses with salted rims, they can be prepared ahead of time as well.

The Best Recipe For Fresh Strawberry Flavor

This recipe is my very favorite way to make Strawberry Margaritas. Sure, you can use a strawberry syrup, frozen strawberries, or blenderize a margarita with fresh strawberries in it, but none of these techniques give the same super fresh flavor and light texture as this recipe.

Personally, I dont like my cocktails to have the same textures as a thick breakfast smoothie, so pureed strawberries in a non-frozen Margarita arent my thing. Instead, I like to muddle fresh berries, add my classic Margarita ingredients and shake, and then fine strain the cocktail.

This gives the cocktail the vibrant and sweet flavor of fresh strawberries, while maintaining the smooth, light texture and viscosity of a classic Margarita.

Take the stems off the strawberries and cut them in half. Place into a high-speed blender. Add the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and agave syrup.

Blend until smooth. Let it sit for 5 minutes and discard any foam that rises to the top.

Place the margarita salt on a small plate a little bigger than your glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a glass.

Dip the rim in the salt.

    Fill the glass with ice.

Pour the margarita mix into the glass.

Garnish with a fresh strawberry and a slice of lime.

Last week, I ventured out to Chilis with two of my dearest friends, Kristen and Melanie, to celebrate my birthday. With life being so chaotic for everyone these days, our get-together ended up being almost a month past my birthday. Oh, how Im sure youve been there before.

Im just proud we made it happen. That in itself is an accomplishment if you know what I mean!

9 times out of 10, if the 3 of us are getting together, were meeting up at Chilis. Its in a convenient location for all three of us, has an abundance of chips and salsa, and an extremely large cocktail menu. Really, what more could us ladies ask for?!

Two seconds after sitting down at the restaurant, the girls and I perused the cocktail menu. My go-to cocktail at Chilis is always the frozen mango margarita. I was just about to order it when the waitress told us about the $5 margarita of the month

    Wait, what?! Tell me more.

With three different tequilas and three different fruit flavors to choose from, I was pretty much sold! Lucky for me they had a mango version for me to order. Kristen went for the blackberry option.

    Make sense?

    EASY FRESH STRAWBERRY MARGARITA

A fresh strawberry margarita made with ripe strawberries, tequila of your choice, fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice, triple sec, and agave syrup.

There are a lot of frozen strawberry margarita recipes out there, but we needed a strawberry margarita recipe on the rocks! I tested this recipe quite a few times with a lot of different ingredients but I really wanted to create a strawberry margarita recipe that didnt require a bunch of steps, a special syrup, or any obscure ingredients. This is a straight-forward margarita on the rocks with macerated strawberries, and once the strawberries are ready, the margaritas come together in no time.

This recipe makes two margaritas and takes 15 total minutes to make, including a resting period for the strawberries so they are extra juicy before being muddled. These are standard, simple ingredients that make a great classic margarita if you leave out the strawberries, too.

    A Note About Measuring

In the recipe section, I referred to the ingredients as shots. Some recipes use ounces, cups, and shots, all in one. Holy confusion after youve had a few.

The very average-sized shot glass I use holds the same amount of liquid as a 1/4-cup measure, which makes it easy to make the recipe in bulk. X parts this to Y parts that.

While you could technically share the recipe as written, after having one, youll want another. So plan on it serving one, nicely. You can sip worry-free since theres no granulated sugar.

They go down so incredibly easy. Especially on vacation.

    Strawberry Margaritas Without A Blender

Many Strawberry Margarita recipes require a blender, but you dont need a blender to make this recipe. If you wanted to make frozen Strawberry Margaritas, then you might want to invest in one.

But this recipe is as easy as can be, minimal equipment required. I do use a wooden muddler for this recipe, which is a very inexpensive tool that you should think about adding to your bar cart, if you dont already have one.

I really like this one by Viski. Tip: if you dont have a muddler, you can improvise and use the end of a wooden spoon!

Depending on where you live in the U.S., strawberry season peaks anywhere between April to June. But in todays global market, fresh strawberries are available almost year round. This means you can make fresh strawberry margaritas anytime you feel like it.

Of course, this cool cocktail is perfect for the hot summer months.

Cooling And Temperature Management For Strawberries

Good temperature management is the single most important factor in reducing strawberry deterioration and maximizing postharvest life. The best way to slow spoilage is to quickly remove field heat and to maintain the berries as close to 0°C as possible. Any failure to maintain produce at low temperatures during handling, storage, and transportation will result in loss of quality and marketability. When the temperature of a strawberry is raised from 0 to 10°C, its deterioration rate increases two- to four-fold. This means that berries held at 20°C have only one-quarter to one-half the life expectancy of those held at 0°C. Market life will be reduced to only a few hours if strawberries are held near 30°C, as may occur in the field.

Berries should be protected from warming when they remain in the field after harvest. Due to their dark color, strawberries in direct sun exposure will absorb heat and quickly warm to above air temperature. Shading can help keep the flesh temperature of harvested berries below that of air. The amount of warming depends on the temperature difference between the berries and air, the duration of sun exposure, and the amount of air flow over the berries.

Do You Put Salt Or Sugar In Strawberry Margaritas

Traditionally, a strawberry margarita recipe calls for a salted rim and I personally like the tang of the salty and sweet flavors. To salt the rim, wet the edges of your glass with a lime wedge and dip it into coarse margarita salt. To use sugar, I use the simple sugar to moisten the rim of the glass.

    Strawberry Margarita On The Rocks

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of two glasses. Dip the edges of the glasses in salt.
  • Add fresh strawberries, tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and agave syrup to a blender. Blend for 1-2 minutes, until smooth.
  • Fill glasses with ice and pour strawberry margarita mixture over ice.
  • The Simplest Ratio For The Best Margaritas

    Strawberry Margarita on the Rocks

A great margarita isnt complicated, and dont let anyone tell you otherwise. If you have tequila, orange liqueur , and plenty of limes on hand, you have everything you need. Just follow a ratio of three parts tequila, two parts orange liqueur, and one part lime juice. Yes, that makes for a strong sip, but because margaritas are usually shaken, the ice mellows out the boozy bite as it melts. Since its a little impractical to shake a whole pitcher of margaritas, youll stir the ice directly into the pitcher, then let it sit for five minutes before serving so some of the ice starts to melt.

I like the tartness of these three-ingredient margaritas, but if you prefer a sweeter drink, make a simple syrup and stir in a few spoonfuls to taste.
