Brandi Carlile And Molly Tuttle Among Top Grammy Nominees
It seems lately that it is Brandi Carliles world and were but grateful citizens on her gentle planet. The socially active singer songwriter and proud flag waver for Americana music received seven nominations for the 65th Grammy Awards on Tuesday, bringing her lifetime collection to 24. Meanwhile, bluegrass artist Molly Tuttles nomination in the industry-wide Best New Artist category was a coup for roots music. The category hadnt seen an Americana artist nominated since Yola in 2019.
Brandi Carliles haul of potential trophies includes: Album of the Year and Best Americana Album for 2021s In These Silent Days Record of the Year, Best Americana Performance, and Best American Roots Song for its track You And Me On The Rock featuring the duo Lucius and a pair of nods in the rock categories for the song Broken Horses. Carlile is also one of the most awarded artists in Americana itself in recent years, having won its Artist of the Year prize in 2019 and 2021.
Molly Tuttle also took a nomination for Best Bluegrass Album for her fresh yet traditional opus Crooked Tree in a category that spanned a wider range of generations. They include veterans Peter Rowan and the Del McCoury Band , mid-career standouts Yonder Mountain String Band and the Infamous Stringdusters .

Album Of The Year Explained
Fast-forward to today, when music is enjoyed in a multitude of formats: So, what makes an album eligible for the Album Of The Year category of the GRAMMY Awards? According the Recording Academy official Awards Department guidelines, recordings must contain at least five different tracks and a total playing time of 15 minutes or a total playing time of at least 30 minutes with no minimum track requirement.
Voters in this category are expected to consider the quality and artistry of the collection of tracks as a whole, and this GRAMMY is awarded to any artist, featured artist, songwriter of new material, producer, recording engineer, mixer, and mastering engineer with at least 33 percent playing time of the album. For example, last year at the 60th GRAMMY Awards, Bruno Mars‘ 24K Magic won Album Of The Year.
Willie Nelson Live Forever
Country music icon Willie Nelson is no stranger to the GRAMMYs, and this year he aims to add to his collection of 10 gramophones. He earned another three nominations for 2023 bringing his career total to 56 including a Best Country Solo Performance nod for “Live Forever.”
Nelson’s performance of “Live Forever,” the lead track of the 2022 tribute album Live Forever: A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver, is a faithful rendition of Shaver’s signature song. Still, Nelson puts his own twist on the tune, recruiting Lucinda Williams for backing vocals and echoing the melody with the inimitable tone of his nylon-string Martin guitar.
Shaver, an outlaw country pioneer who passed in 2020 at 81 years old, never had any hits of his own during his lifetime. But plenty of his songs were still heard, thanks to stars like Elvis Presley, Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings. Nelson was a longtime friend and frequent collaborator of Shaver’s and now has a GRAMMY nom to show for it.
The Latin GRAMMYs may have justhonored the genre’s trailblazers in Las Vegas on Nov. 17, but the celebration will continue at the upcoming 65th GRAMMY Awards ceremony in February. Billie Gets Jazzy With Tunes New And Old
Billie Eilish is an artist born into a generation that doesnt give a darn about genres. With Spotify and other DSPs, everyone has access to every genre in the palm of their hand, and shes been influenced by all of them including jazz.
While her music may not fit a jazz aesthetic, Eilish has begun to implement more artistic improvisation into her vocal delivery. A lilt to close a phrase here a small riff between verses there. The improvisation demonstrates her continued ownership over the songs, and Eilish’s ease with manipulating them.
Such skills came front and center during two songs in particular: “my future” and “Billie Bossa Nova.” Had there not been thousands of fans screaming every word, Billies intricate vocal work could have turned the forum into an intimate jazz lounge for a few minutes.

Carlile is all about her people. Mitchell, Tucker, John, Russell, the roster of Northern Lights and many more. Genre, community, whatever you want to call it, this is where Carlile thrives. I know how othering it can feel to be in a community you know you arent part of, Carlile says. And how joyful it can feel to be in one you are. I hate to bring everything back to being gay, but it really is my lens. Queers, we dont have that luxury of being without protection. We see the genres as a little more comfortable.
She brings up a line from the original demo for the Highwomens Crowded Table, written by bandmate Natalie Hemby and Lori McKenna: I want a world where there are no labels. Ultimately, Carlile suggested they change it to let us take on the world. She couldnt relate. I love those two soulful women so much, but I felt the heterosexuality in those lyrics, she says. To not have a team is to not have people around to defend you when the s hits the fan.
And then theres Mitchell herself. Carlile still hasnt come down from that Newport set, grabbing her iPhone at one point to show off some photos like a parent does a newborn. If you thought what she did was miraculous, just know it was even more miraculous since we had no idea it was going to happen until it did, Carlile says.

Brandi Carlile dazzled the Grammy audience with her performance of her Grammy-nominated Right on Time.
Fitted in a glitter suit that couldve once been Elton Johns, Carlile provided her deep Americana drawl while playing rhythm guitar. Bonnie Raitt and Joni Mitchell introduced Carlile, and along with her suit, Carlile had the power of 70s rock and Americana fueling her raw performance. As her vocals drove the performance, Carlile nailed the final high note of the track, marking the performance as one of the best of Right on Time.

Carliles In These Silent Days was released on October 1, 2021. She received five nods just this year, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance for Right on Time, Best American Roots Performance for Same Devil, and a second Song of the Year nomination for A Beautiful Noise. She is the first female artist to receive two Song of the Year nods in the same year.

Billie Eilish was full of holiday cheer, giving not just the gift of music but actual gifts for the audience as well.
From atop a raised platform that moved throughout the arena, where she performed three songs, Eilish took candy from a stocking and threw it into the crowd. Before the final song of the night, “Happier Than Ever,” she pulled out a bag of gifts and threw what looked like t-shirts into the crowd as well.
This came after she performed an actual Christmas song “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.”

Brandi Carlile has arrived at musics big night!
The 40-year-old musician and wife Catherine Shepherd hit the red carpet together while arriving at the 2022 Grammy Awards on Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
For the red carpet, Brandi looked cool in a sparkling multi-colored blazer with coordinating trousers and bedazzled belt.

Brandi Carlile is nominated for seven awards at the 65th GRAMMY Awards: Album of the Year , Record of the Year , Best Americana Album , Best Americana Performance , Best American Roots Song , Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song . Already a six-time Grammy Award-winner, this years accolades brings her total number of Grammy nominations to 24.
Inspired by the mining of Carliles own history while writing last years #1 New York Times Best Selling memoir, Broken Horses , In These Silent Days was released last fall to overwhelming acclaim on Low Country Sound/Elektra Records. A newly released deluxe version of the album, entitled In The Canyon Haze, features reimagined Laurel Canyon-inspired versions of each song from the original album, plus a special rendition of David Bowies Space Oddity .

She Climbed Mount Everest With Some Friends
When Billie says she has a song stuck in her head, everyone in the crowd knows shes going to sing it.
So when she referenced Labrinth’s “Mount Everest,” everyone knew what was coming yes, that includes Labrinths appearance. Eilish said she was going to make the shows special, and that just had to include some of her friends.
Labrinths music is as titanic as it is poignant, and it may be hard to believe the sweet-voiced Eilish could match his intensity. But she did so with aplomb, especially when she took on the duties for the verse of Labrinths song for the “Euphoria” soundtrack, “Ive Never Felt So Alone.”
For “Ive Never Felt So Alone,” the crowd was singing along instead of screaming along. The screams were welcome for the rest of the set, but it was simply impossible not to take it down a notch and be in your feelings in that moment.
