Blue Run Flight Series is a collection âmicro batchesâ of Blue Runâs lauded Kentucky Straight High Rye Bourbon Whiskey. Each of the six âFlightsâ consists of between two to five barrels contract distilled by Blue Runâs Liquid Advisor Jim Rutledge at Castle & Key Distillery.The barrels were hand-selected and expertly blended by Whiskey Director Shaylyn Gammon, making Flight the first Blue Run whiskey release blended by Gammon since she joined the company earlier this year. The small number of barrels used in Blue Runâs micro batching allows Gammonâs award-winning blending artistry to shine through on each bourbon, creating exceptional flavor experiences in each Flight.
Jim Rutledge Liquid Advisor
The iconic Jim Rutledge expertly approves Blue Runâs Bourbon selections and distills our new make Bourbon.Rutledge, a 50-year veteran of the industry, is the former Master Distiller of Four Roses Bourbon. Enshrined in the inaugural class of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame in 2001, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 from Malt Advocate, and was named Ambassador of the Year by Whisky Magazine in 2008. Rutledge was also the 13th inductee into Whisky Magazineâs global hall of fame in 2013.

Kentucky Straight High Rye Single Barrel
The Blue Run team has selected 12 different single barrels of their High Rye Bourbon, which was contract distilled at Castle & Key Distillery. Each barrel, which featured a #4 alligator char and was aged in Frankfort and Bardstown, KY, will have its own unique personality based on where it was in the rickhouse and how the whiskey reacted to the wood. They range from 115-117 proof and the color of the butterflies vary based upon the distinct flavor profile.

Blue Run High Rye Bourbon Batch 2 Hits The Market
Blue Run Kentucky Straight High Rye Bourbon Batch 2 is a small-batch whiskey and is the first Blue Run product with Bourbon Hall of Famer Jim Rutledge overseeing the production . Rutledge distilled this batch at Castle & Key Distillery.
This whiskey is distilled from a 65% Yellow Corn, 30% Rye, 5% Malted Barley mash bill.
Blue Run Whiskey Director Shaylyn Gammon oversaw the dumping and blending of 232 barrels. Batch 1 of BRKSHRB sold out in minutes online as stated by Blue Run. Each barrel was toasted to a #4 alligator char and aged in Frankfort and Bardstown, KY., proof clocking in at 111. MSRP is $99.

This is a very exciting bourbon for Blue Run Spirits. Blue Run High Rye Bourbon was contract distilled at Castle & Key Distillery, with Jim Rutledge as the contracted Master Distiller. For their previous sourced bourbons, Jim Rutledge served as the Liquid Advisor, and approved the barrels which were selected and used. This time, he was actually in charge of the distillation. For anyone who may not be familiar with Jim Rutledge, he was a former Master Distiller at Four Roses and a member of the inaugural class of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame. Of course, Four Roses is known for their high rye mash bills and this mash bill is certainly high rye. Its 65% corn, 30% rye and 5% malted barley, something Jim Rutledge is certainly accustomed to working with. So whats it like?

Blue Run Spirits today announces Trey Wade has joined the fast-growing, Georgetown, Kentucky-based whiskey company in the role of Chief Experience Curator for Blue Run’s soon-to-be-announced Private Barrel Program. Wade starts immediately, reporting to CEO and cofounder Mike Montgomery.
Wade, a well-known figure in the American whiskey industry, joins Blue Run having served as the Vice President of National Partnerships for the Black Bourbon Society for three years. An Executive Bourbon Steward, he has participated in more than 120 barrel selections and contributed to dozens of blending projects for well-known brands. In 2021, Trey collaborated with Blue Run on its inaugural 12 Days of Bourbon release, which set records for selling out 12 days in a row, each in less than two minutes.
Tapping into his years of experiential marketing experience at Dell, Amazon and Five Hour Energy, Wade will manage the curation of Blue Run’s first Private Barrel Program, developing an experience that is quintessentially Blue Run. The project will kick off in February, allowing select businesses, spirits societies and individuals to choose from a collection of carefully selected barrels, securing their own whiskey perfectly suited for them but with the distinct characteristics for which Blue Run is known.

Review: Blue Run Golden Rye And High Rye Bourbon 4 Years Old
Blue Run hit the scene with a splash in 2020, a collaboration between Jim Rutledge, the famed former master distiller at Four Roses, and Nike brand designer Devon McKinney. Since then, a smattering of whiskeys have been released by the brand, but theyve all had a catch: All were sourced, none had any of Rutledges real fingerprints on them.
Thats finally changing today. While Blue Run Golden Rye is also sourced, the new Blue Run High Rye Bourbon release was distilled at Castle & Key by Jim Rutledge himself, working as contracted master distiller for the batch.
