Best Margarita On The Rocks Recipe

Making Your Own Best Margarita Recipe:

The Original Margarita | Food52 + @CointreauUS

1) Lay on the booze. If you like it really boozy, not only can you add extra tequila but you can use Cointreau instead of Triple Sec for the orange liqueur. Cointreau has a higher alcohol content I definitely sip Cointreau margaritas more slowly than Triple Sec ones .

2) Lime-lover? Decide if you love lime or just like it. Love it, add more. Just like it, add less. But you have to do something else either way: After squeezing your fresh lime juice, dip a finger in and taste it. Do you think, whoa! acid! or do you think mmm lime? You see, not every lime is the same. Some are harsher than others. If youve got a harsh one, you might want to add less of it, or counter it with more simple syrup and/or more Triple Sec.

3) Find your sweet spot. The way I determined how sweet I like my own margaritas was to make a marg without any sweetener in it. I made it in a bigger glass than usual to accommodate some vigorous stirring. I took a sip. Whoa Nellie! Sour! I added a teaspoon of simple syrup, stirred and tasted. Better. Not great. Repeat. I got to 3 teaspoons when it was just right for me. A perfect balance of acid and sweet for my taste buds. 3 teaspoons is 1/2 of an ounce, so that works out well for bartender measurements too. Do this experiment for yourself to find your spot. .

5) Get creative! Go out on a limb and add new flavors to you margarita. This Lemon Basil Marg is one of my faves. Of course, you could always go frozen with this Strawberry Margarita.

Why This Recipe Works

Made with just three ingredients, this cocktail is far superior to anything made with a store bought, artificial ingredient laden margarita mix. All you need is some top shelf tequila blanco, freshly squeezed lime juice, and some Cointreau .

If youd like to make yours a little sweeter, feel free to add in a splash of agave nectar or homemade simple syrup. That said, Id highly recommend giving the three-ingredient marg a try before you do its so tart and refreshing!

These classic margaritas on the rocks are also excellent for parties. The recipe can easily be scaled to your needs using a simple, easy-to-remember ratio. Just remember: Its basically 2-1-1 to make a delicious classic margarita. 2 parts tequila, 1 part lime, and 1 part Cointreau! Feel free to batch up a big pitcher and keep a cooler of ice nearby for your guests to serve themselves.

So, this weekend go ahead and pour yourself a REAL margarita. You deserve it!

How Do You Make A Skinny Margarita

For my favorite skinny margarita recipe, I just make a couple of tiny changes compared to a classic margarita. Replace the Triple Sec with freshly squeezed orange juice for that simple orange flavor without the extra calories.

You can also use agave syrup to add a bit of sweetness to your liking. This comes out to less than 200 calories for a large glass of my skinny margaritas!

4. Although we love elderflower liqueur in many different cocktails , we were skeptical of including it in a margarita. Silly us. The slightly sweet and floral notes of the elderflower liqueur take the place of simple syrup in this recipe and are the perfect balance to the strongly flavored reposado tequila. The Elderflower Margarita is a must try.

The Best Margarita Recipe Is The One Customized To Your Tastes

Easy Watermelon Margarita on the Rocks

A traditional margarita recipe is special in the pantheon of classic cocktails. Like the venerable daiquiri, the drink is primal enough that it can be made from commonly found ingredients yet has enough complexity to offer endless possibilities for riffing and customization. The basic recipetequila with triple sec and fresh lime juiceis forgiving for beginners but has enough room for experimentation that seasoned pros can add their own touches of flair.

There are a lot of riffs and variations of the popular cocktail , but as long as you have ashaken drinkwith tequila, lime, and orange liqueur, you are safely in Margaritaville. As someone who likes a more spirit-forward margarita, my go-to recipe is:

A Bit Of Margarita Cocktail History

No one really knows who invented the margarita. There are several stories of origin around women named Margarita claiming to be the beverage inventor, but they are iffy. One of the oldest mentions of a similar cocktail called the Picador, meaning a type of bullfighter , can be found from the 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book by William Tarling.

Compared to the watered down and ultra sweetened margaritas that are served at many bars and restaurants today, the original margarita recipe is quite tart consisting of just tequila, orange liquor and lime juice.

: The Worlds First Frozen Margarita Machine was invented in 1971. 24-year-old Mexican restaurant owner, Mariano Martinez, needed a quicker and more consistent way to keep up with the margarita demand. The answer struck him after seeing a 7-Eleven Slurpee machine. Readily frozen margaritas are now available throughout America. Thanks, Mariano!

Can You Make Margarita Mix

You can! We prefer the flavor of the pitcher variation above. But margarita mix is also great for parties and you can mix it up in advance. Here are a few options:

  • This that makes a big pitcher of 8 to 16 drinks. It uses a bit of lemon as well to get the sour mix vibe going.
  • Sweet and sour mix: You can also make sweet and sour mix! For each drink, mix 2 ounces tequila, ½ ounce Cointreau and 1 ounce sweet and sour mix.

Pineapple Margarita: Pop over to this recipe for Pineapple Margarita for a truly yummy drink!

Grapefruit Margarita: 1 part lime juice, 1 part grapefruit juice, .25 part agave, 2 parts silver tequila.

Spicy Margarita: Sub in a little jalapeno infused tequila for the silver tequila.

Jalapeno, but not super spicy Drop a jalapeno slice in your margarita. Just stir it in, dont muddle it. It will give you nice kiss of heat and verdant flavor.

Reposado: Use a Reposado tequila in place of the silver. It is mix of aged and silver tequila and will have a slightly stronger vanilla/caramel flavor.

How To Make The Best Margarita

Making an awesome margarita at home is easy! Heres what you need to do:

    • First, salt the rim of a margarita glass. Rub it with a wedge of lime and dip the top of the glass in a small plate of salt. Just a heads up, its super easy to forget to do this step before you start mixing up your cocktail . But in order for you to get a good salt rim on your glass, it has to be empty. You need to be able to turn the glass upside down so that you can dip it in the salt, so always remember to do this step first!
    • Next, mix up your drink! Add the tequila, Cointreau, and freshly squeezed lime juice to the glass, and stir to combine. Top the glass with ice cubes or crushed ice, and add a splash of agave nectar or simple syrup.
    • Finally, taste and adjust. In order to make a cocktail you really love, youre going to have to taste and adjust. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add more agave, simple syrup, or even a splash of orange juice. If you like a stiffer drink, add more tequila and Cointreau. I like mine really tangy, just as the recipe is written. Garnish your glass with a lime slice, and enjoy!

Why This Is The Best Margarita Recipe

    • It is perfectly balanced in flavor, not too sweet, not too tangy, not too salty.
    • Adding a little agave to the mix actually enhances the tequila and lime flavor and takes some of the bite out of a strong cocktail.
    • Using quality ingredients like fresh lime juice, Cointreau and good Tequila makes it the BEST Margarita on the Rocks!

The Keys To Making The Best Margarita On The Rocks:

  • Mix equal parts FRESH lime juice and simple syrup + a splash of triple sec. Most Classic Margarita Recipes call for a lot less simple syrup and sometimes too much triple sec. which is not the perfect balance in our opinion.
  • Its also important to make sure to fill your drink glass with crushed ice almost to the top. Otherwise the mixture of lime & syrup will be too sweet and we need a lot of ice to balance it.
  • Select a great tequila. See below
  • What Tequila To Use

    Margaritas on the Rocks Recipe

Im often asked what is the best tequila. The best tequila is a matter of personal preference. And yet its an understandable question as there seems to be a new tequila on the market every day!

Personally we drink blanco or reposado. The only suggestion we have is to stay away from cheap tequila unless you want to remember your college days and the reason why so many people fear tequila.

There are a lot of good tequilas out there in the $30-$35 price range that will do the trick!

Needless to say, after drinking these cocktails we became snobs!! I think my hubby nailed the perfect ratio of all ingredients if I do say so myself

How To Make A Salted Rim

If you have a glass, a lime wedge, and a small dish of course salt, you can make a salted rim. Its super easy!

Simply run the cut side of a lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Then dip the wet rim into the course salt, straight down and then straight back up. Do not twist the glass in the salt, or you risk losing some of the granules that are already attached.

For the salt, use course kosher salt or any specialty margarita salts. I have this inexpensive margarita salt, in its own dipping dish with sealable lid, and it works great. And I was given this bamboo bar rimmer as a gift, which is extra lovely when entertaining.

How To Make A Classic Margarita:

    • Start off by salting the rim by gliding a lime wedge around the top of the glass. Dip the top of the glass in coarse Kosher salt. Fill the glass with ice cubes.
    • In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, a sweetener if adding, and some ice cubes. Top the shaker with the lid and shake until chilled for around 10 seconds.
    • Strain and pour the mixture over the rocks and garnish with a lime wedge.

    Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve

    Margarita – The Basics

Oak Ridges Corridor Conservation Reserve spans over 175 hectares with many entry points into the Oak Ridges Trail and is dominated by mature forests, wetlands, meadows, kettle lakes, and an expansive network of recreation trails.

There are multiple points of entry to the reserve and also intertwines with Bond Lake which is further down this list. You can enter from the west near Bathurst Avenue or as far east as Bayview Avenue.

What I like about this reserve is that it is relatively unknown. While many know about Bond Lake, most don’t know the full extent of the entire corridor with its many connector and secondary trails.

When planning a trip out here, just remember that it does lack trail loops which means you’ll have to double back or plan on doing the hike one-way.

This reserve is also significant because it is an ecological linkage to the Oak Ridges Moraine.

Something worth noting is that unlike many of the other parks that are managed by the City of Richmond Hill, this is managed and maintained by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority .

  • Start with a quality Reposado . I like Milagro but there are tons of choices. TIP: Look for Reposado based cocktails when you are ordering a cocktail – it’s a great way to try other tequilas without having to purchase multiple bottles!
  • Juice your limes: If you’re making these for a crowd, you can juice the limes several hours in advance. Hold on to some of the juiced limes to use to rim the glass!
  • Rim your glass or glasses
  • Shake your cocktail: You can shake the margaritas a couple of hours before serving but I like to do it just before. There is something so festive about the sound of a cocktail shaker!
  • Add ice: Add ice to your glass or glasses and pour the margarita over. Garnish with a lime wedge if desired and then serve!
  • How To Make An Old Fashioned Cocktail:

To make this maple-sweetened old fashioned cocktail, simply:

  • Prep your orange peel. Use a vegetable peeler or knife to carefully cut a 2- to 3-inch-long piece of orange peel. Run the pulp-side of the peel around the rim of the cocktail glass. Then set aside.
  • Add bourbon, bitters, and maple syrup. And use a spoon to briefly stir to combine.
  • Add in the ice. And stir with the spoon again to mix and chill the drink.
  • Garnish and serve. Give the orange peel a good twist to release its oils, then tuck it into the drink. Add a maraschino cherry and serve immediately.
  • Cheers, everyone!

Skinny Margarita (On The Rocks + Spicy Vereation)

You see, margaritas are one of those things that are different to different people. Some like them crazy sweet. Others like them really strong. Some want very tart and sour lime. Others, just a citrus whiff. And lets not get started on rocks versus straight up, salt or no salt. Yikes! If I dared to claim that I had the best margarita recipe, a good 75% of you would want to fight with me. But why fight when we can drink?

So, what Im giving you below is my favorite margarita recipe. Its how I make them to my taste. I dont like them super-boozy. I do like them very limey. And I like a touch of sweetness.
