Are White Claws Made With Vodka

If You Drink White Claw Every Night It Could Cause Dehydration

Is White Claw a healthy alcoholic drink?

Billed as light and refreshing because of its seltzer base and available in a wide range of flavors like mango, ruby red grapefruit, and black cherry, White Claw is often pooled into a category of hydrating drinks. But registered dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness and Preventive Medicine Institute, Anna Kippen, MS, RDN, told the Food Network that even though you’re technically drinking carbonated water, you are actually experiencing dehydration if you drink White Claw every night because it includes alcohol, which in and of itself is a diuretic.

“It’s easy to mistake a clear, sparkling drink that isn’t too sweet for being hydrating, but let’s not forget that we are drinking alcohol,” Kippen said. In order to combat this effect, Kippen suggested staying hydrated, reaching for a nonalcoholic seltzer or water between drinks. So, if you’re planning to enjoy a couple of drinks, maybe grab a glass of water each time you snatch a White Claw from the fridge.

White Claw Is Leading The Hard Seltzer Market

Since its debut, White Claw has continued to increase in sales, slowly taking over the beverage aisle. Overall, ready-to-go alcoholic beverage sales have skyrocketed, and sales in the malt-based cocktail category have increased by 574 percent.

With such a spike in the market, a number of companies have introduced a malt-based cocktail beverage similar to White Claw including brands like Truly, Pure and Bon & Viv. And with an expected growth of the category from its current worth at $550 million to $2.5 billion by 2021, jumping from a consumption rate of 14 million cases in 2018 to 72 million cases in 2021, it’s no wonder there are as many companies getting on board as possible.

But even with the addition of portable malt beverages from large companies all the way down to craft breweries, White Claw is still leading the charge. According to Business Insider, White Claw is leading the market with 50 percent of the hard seltzer share, but plenty of other beverage companies are hoping to catch up. So far, White Claw doesn’t have to put too much worry into the competition.

Is White Claw Beer

If the alcohol from White Claw is derived from malted grains, is it not then similar to beer? Can it not be considered a version of beer? This is another question popular with White Claw drinkers.

To determine whether White Claw can be considered a beer, let’s refer to the German Purity Law of 1516. According to this law, a beer can be called a beer if it is made from four ingredients: malt, water, hops and yeast.

While White Claw is made from malted grains, which are an ingredient in beer, the White Claw website specifically states that the drink does NOT contain hops, so technically it cannot be considered a beer.

If You Drink White Claw Every Night Your Teeth Could Rot

According to a study published in the International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry in 2007, high pH levels found in sparkling water gives the bubbly drink greater erosive potential than orange juice. So what happens when that sparkling water is spiked? Orthodontist Heather Kunen, DDS, MS, told Real Simple that White Claw “creates a more acidic oral environment and makes enamel more vulnerable to wear and attack by bacteria.”

Kunen went on, “When it comes to the consumption of any alcoholic beverage, the biggest concerns I have as a dentist are related to the sugar content of the drink, as well as the dry-mouth side effect of the alcohol itself.” White Claw’s carbonation ” pH levels in the mouth” and can “hinder an ideal salivary flow,” Dr. Kunen explained, which makes teeth more vulnerable to cavities and other negative factors.

The best way to prevent possible teeth rot if you drink White Claw every night? Drink plenty of water drink a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage and then “rinse out your mouth with water after you have finished your drink.”

If You Drink White Claw Every Night You Could Cause Inflammation In Your Gut

Simple Lime White Claw Cocktail Recipe with Vodka ...

If you drink White Claw every night, nutrition and fitness coach Katie Boyd, MS, said you could be putting “unnecessary oxidative stress on your system and straining the delicate microbiome of the gut especially its good bacteria.”

“Alcohol can also cause inflammatory responses throughout the entire body specifically the gut,” Boyd, a nutrition expert, told The List. She said that while White Claw is a low-calorie alcoholic beverage touting only 100 calories per can, it should not be treated as a health drink. And if you’re drinking it every day, Boyd said that overconsumption can cause “impairment, inflammation, dehydration and addiction.”

“Obviously drink with caution, but from 20 years in the health and wellness industry, cutting out alcohol all together is the best way to experience optimal health,” Boyd said. “If you want health and weight loss, cut out anything that causes inflammation.”

Tangerine White Claw Mimosa

While researching the art of White Claw recipes, I couldnt shake this idea and scoured the internet looking to see if its been done yet, and I dont think it has. In my opinion, the tangerine White Claw is by far the best flavor, and since its orange, why not use it as a substitute for orange juice in a mimosa? Add champagne as you would for a classic mimosa, and top it off with a tangerine White Claw. Yes, it will be strong. But If youre drinking a mimosa, you know what youre in for. Feel free to add orange juice for coloring, but I think this could be absolutely delicious !

It’s About Time We Abandoned The Idea Of Drinking Alcohol Especially Hard Seltzer For Health Reasons In This Week’s Drinking With Esther Newsletter

A big part of White Claws messaging has been around its low alcohol and calorie counts. Now, the brand has released Surge, a higher-alcohol hard seltzer.

Its been a big week in the hard-seltzer world. White Claw, the most popular brand of hard seltzer in the U.S., introduced a new product with a special hook: Its higher in alcohol.

White Claw Surge, which comes in blood orange and cranberry flavors, bumps up the alcohol content from 5% to 8%, and fills a bigger can 16 ounces, as opposed to the originals 12 ounces. Naturally, the larger volume and higher alcohol adds some nutritional impact. Whereas its other hard seltzers advertise their 100-calorie-per-can counts, Surge delivers 220 calories.

In other words, White Claw, after building a brand on the premise that its hard seltzers are a healthier alcohol choice than the competition, seems to have pretty much abandoned all pretense surrounding that. Im hoping this means that the rest of us can abandon that pretense too. Hard seltzer has never been a healthy beverage. Drinking any type of alcohol specifically for health reasons is drinking it for the wrong reasons.

May White Claw Surge usher in a new era of transparency. Its as if Surge is winking at us, whispering, All along, we knew that all you really wanted was to get drunk.

Technically White Claw Is A Malt Beverage

There’s a lot of hype surrounding White Claw, especially as some regard the sparkling beverage as a “vodka soda in a can.” And while it may resemble your favorite refreshing cocktail from the bar, according to Vine Pair, it’s definitely not a vodka soda or the newest IPA on the market. But what exactly is it?

According to Vine Pair, this bubbly sensation is a flavored malt beverage. A White Claw rep told Vine Pair it’s “a blend of seltzer water, its gluten-free alcohol base, and a hint of fruit flavor.” And it’s in the same line of beverages as its cousin, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, as well as other portable drinks like Smirnoff Ice and wine coolers.

But according to Eater, White Claw just might be more of an upscale version than your everyday malt beverage. “It’s an upscale, aspirational brand, one that doesn’t carry the same trashy, low-budget connotations as other malt liquor beverages like wine coolers,” they said. But whatever level of the pedestal you decide to place White Claw on, it’s still made through a similar process as other malt beverages.

What Makes A Good Cocktail With Lime White Claws

On its own, White Claws have a very mellow flavor . In order to make a good cocktail with this drink, you really need to reinforce the flavor of the White Claw.

In our case, we chose the lime-flavored one, so we want to focus on that and add more lime and citrus flavorings to the drink. If we chose the raspberry claw, wed pivot and focus on other berry flavors to add to the cocktail.

Diy White Claw: How To Make Your Own Hard Seltzer

A READER ASKED me to write about the cocktail I most like to make for myself at home.

    I considered lying.

After all, I am an alcohol columnist. I regularly scold you about the provenance of your absinthe, and wax novelistic about pre-Colombian hot chocolate. I should encourage you, the reader, to imagine me standing behind my encyclopedic bar of obscure Eastern European schnapps and Japanese whiskeys, adding a drip of this and a dab of that to a perfectly weighted snifter every time I want to relax in the tub with a drink after work.

But despite all my pointed opinions about gin, coffee-tasting notes and the merits of a bacon-scented rauchbier, I dont actually spend my evenings polishing my Vermouth bottles. Yes, I enjoy a nice aged Scotch on a winters evening bubble over a cocktail made with bubbly and, if Im trying to impress you when you come over, Ill craft something with bespoke bitters and homemade Falernum. But if Im just looking for a cocktail to sip while I make soup, binge-watch The Witcher or clean out my closet, my go-to cocktail recipe is:

1 glass of fizzy water, on the rocks

    1 shot of vodka

    Half a handful of berries

1/4 to 1/2 a limes worth of juice, depending on the size of the lime

DIRECTIONS: Place berries in an empty glass. Smoosh berries with a spoon, or similar implement. Add ice, vodka, fizzy water and a squeeze of lime. Hit play on Netflix.

Are Hard Seltzers Good Or Bad For You

A lot of people think that just because White Claw and other brands are sold in grocery stores next to club sodas and ginger beer, a can of hard seltzer to them is like the innocent kind of alcohol with a halo above its head. On paper, hard seltzers are lower in carbohydrates and calories than other alcoholic beverages, but thats not a lot to go on with when talking about health benefits.

On the pros column, its already established that hard seltzers are low in calories and carbs. Numbers-wise, its a safer type of alcohol compared to a regular beer, a , or a . But on the flip side, health experts also warn that these very safe-sounding attributes the low calories, the low carbs, and the low alcohol are the very things that make hard seltzers dangerous. How? Binge drinking.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration , having 4 or more alcoholic beverages for women or 5 or more alcoholic beverages for men over 2 to 3 hours is considered binge drinking.

Binge drinking puts people at risk of accidents, injuries, and other long term negative health effects. Theyre also at increased risk of alcohol poisoning, a serious and potentially deadly effect of drinking too much alcohol over a short period. People who binge are usually drinking beyond their normal levels, and drinks like hard seltzers reinforce that by giving them the idea that its safe to drink no matter how many cans you consume.
